Title: Gee, another question from the WW?!?
Post by: nutcase?!? on June 10, 2006, 01:54:57 pm
Hello all:

Here it goes, one time unprotected vaginal intercourse encounter with person of unknown status (states she is healthy as an ox).  EIA tests at 6 weeks, 9 weeks and 13 weeks all negative.  Also, ran CBC, and blood tests for Liver, pancreatic function and diabetes, all came back "normal".  Also, syphilis test at 13 weeks negative.  Have had no discharge, painful urination etc, so feel fairly comfortable that chlamydia and gonorrhea can be ruled out.  I have not had hep. a b or c tests run as my physician told me that my blood tests would have presented something, (not necessarily viral hep) but shows no sort of infection at all.  Do you concur with this statement?  I know that this is an hiv website, however the two do have a tendency to go hand in hand quite often, or so it seems through my "vast" on line research.

I really just want to get back to normal sex with my wife, she is starting to wonder why I have this "mutual masturbation" fetish.

Hey nutcase,

Just think, you could have avoided all that worry and testing for the cost of one latex condom.

Did you really come here to have your doctor's performace evaluated?

Nut,

You really had no question related to hiv risk assessment.

We would refer you to your doctor for questions related to hepatitis.  Your testing has conclusively settled any hiv issue.

My response was intended to point out the importance of the use of condoms for vaginal or anal sex outside of a securely monogamous relationship.

Use them every time to avoid the risk and worry of hiv infection.

Nut, I'm not clear about what it is you're still worried about in terms of STDs. HIV has been ruled out definitively and your doctor seems to have covered the bases for you otherwise.

Have you asked him if he considers it safe for you to have unprotected intercourse with your wife? That seems the obvious question to ask and your doctor the obvious source.

Cheers,

i guess i answered my own question didn't I.........I do like this site a lot for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that i have figured out that I am not the only one who is convinced that he/she is the one in a million, billion, gazillion that had a one time potential risk and tested negative at 6, 9, and 13 weeks but is still somehow infected.

Nutcase,

You are absolutely, totally hiv negative. You do not have hiv and your conclusive thirteen week negative test result proves that.

nutcase, you are reliably HIV negative. Go enjoy that gift, enjoy your life, your sexuality, your world. Go bask in the summer sun today, for those who did not live to see it.

I have seen ARS also called the "seroconversion illness".  ARS is said to show up 2-4 weeks post exposure, however if someone does have late seroconversion would he/she the also have the opportunity to have a late onset of ARS?  I called the CDC, the site which is used here as the golden rule, and they stated that 97% of people will seroconvert by 3 months (13 weeks) and when asked what the contributing factors to late seroconversion were, they stated that they did not have that information.

It has never been said that everyone that gets infected with HIV will go through ARS with seroconversion.

Sorry, i did not mean to insinuate that all infected have ars......that is why i asked if their was the opportunity to have late ars if there was late seroconversion.

I don't see the need for further questioning. You've had your 13 week negative result, you're negative. You've never stated that you are an IV drug user, on chemo or on immuno suppressive drugs. So that makes your tests reliable that you are NEGATIVE.

You're absolutely and reliably HIV negative. Period. End of story.

If you can't let go of this then it has nothing to do with anything grounded in HIV science.

It has to do with your thoughts and feelings. Maybe there are other issues in your marriage. I don't know. I'm just guessing. But if you cannot let go of this unwarranted fear then I would it's time for you to see a therapist or other such professional and talk openly in the privacy of that setting about what's going on.

This is not an HIV situation and mistakenly continuing to focus on that is not going to resolve the situation -- quite the contrary it will just keep it going. Which is an "advantage" of sorts if there are other things you would rather not deal with.

It's your move.

Cheers,

I am not going to lie to you and say that you are wrong, I am still a bit concerned, however, not to the point of believing that i am positive.  My wife knows of the situation and we are just "making sure" we have all bases covered so to speak.  I don't think that I am acting irrationally, i truly felt that it was a prudent question, thanks so much for the support.

I called the CDC, the site which is used here as the golden rule...

Nut,

Just for the record, the CDC site is NOT used as the "golden rule" here, only their thirteen week window period is. There is a lot of outdated, useless hiv "information" on the CDC site. On this website and forum we go by CURRENT first-tier, peer-reviewed scientific data as published in the latest journals of the medical community.

I always go by a three month or 12-13 week window period because in the States, it is thirteen weeks, but in the UK and most of Europe it is twelve weeks, using the same tests made by the same companies as the ones used in the States.

The week difference in window periods has nothing to do with the virus itself, rather it is to do with the fact that while it is generally accepted that a month has four weeks, to make twelve four-week months leaves four weeks left over as there are 52 weeks in a year. As three months is also a quarter of a year, the US/CDC splits hairs and makes the window period thirteen weeks. Twelve weeks or thirteen, both are adequate.

You are hiv negative.
