I remember seeing a documentary about anti-gay crimes in Australia.  And, the police weren't shown in a good light.

George Takei posted that Mardi Gras video on Facebook yesterday.  What's up down under?  I thought the U.S. was the intolerant, first-world country.  I haven't known all that much about Australia until recently.  I've had friends say it isn't as progressive and tolerant as many would think.  True?

Having just finished reading  The Gay Mystique , I was reminded
of the horrible way several of my friends were murdered in Connecticut in the
 early 1970's  .
My neighbor , A living hunk was found throat slashed and floating in a pond .
another friend was chained to the steering wheel in his  Volkswagon  Beetle and burned to death .
Two aquatints that ran a high scale Antique Gallery in SouthBury were brutally slaughtered for no apparent reason other than being gay .
I clearly remember the danger of going to Sea-Side Park in Bridgeport ,CT.
Gangs had taken over the University campus ! It was a very bad time for a while .
I will say back then The State Policemen that were stalking the local truck stops were not after Gays , But rather were watching for thugs !  I will always have a place in my heart for those State Policemen .
