Used buttplug - PEP?
« on: March 07, 2023, 09:42:34 am »
Dear Jim,
Yesterday I had an erotic massage yesterday, and the guy inserted a small dildo into my anus. It stayed there for about two minutes, and though there wasn't a lot of friction, I did notice some blood when I went to the bathroom later that day.
I can't be sure if the butt plug had been previously washed or disinfected, but I know that no one else had used before me for at least forty minutes - possibly more.
Would that be enough time for whatever flesh blood there was on the dildo to dry off, killing the virus? Or should I start PEP today?
Thank you! You guys do an amazing job.

Hiya,

It's not an HIV concern.

However, if you ever share a toy again, ensure it has been cleaned due to other easier-to-acquire bacterial and viral infections.

Here's what you need to know to reduce your HIV risks:
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse correctly and consistently, with no exceptions. Consider talking to your healthcare provider about PrEP as an additional layer of protection against HIV

Keep in mind that some sexual practices described as safe in terms of acquiring HIV still pose a risk for other easier-acquired STIs. So please do get tested at least yearly for STIs, including but not limited to HIV, and more frequently if condomless intercourse occurs.

Also, note that it is possible to have an STI and show no signs or symptoms; testing is the only way to know.

Kind regards

Jim

Thank you, Jim. No pep then, correct?
What drives me (and I suspect a lot of other users here) insane is the contradictory guidelines coming form different hiv forums regarding sex toys: Some doctors say it does pose a small hiv risk; others say that only if the time lapse between the two insertions is very small (and there's been one documented case of a lesbian couple who gave each other hiv that way), while others claim that hiv is dead as soon as it comes in contact with air (which is the stance you take on this forum).

You are not a lesbian, right? I mean, it was a guy you were with? Also, there is no documented case; there was indeed a claim years ago that got attention, so I know the details of what you are talking about. Essentially was the same evidence as toilet seats, kissing, and aliens spreading HIV.

Now, don't get me started on the kissing case in the 90s when an "investigator" concluded kissing was a route between a couple having condomless intercourse and sharing IV drug rigs, something the government-funded organization since has denied ;D I laugh, but the damage this did is still felt today.

End of the day, I can't police what others claim or when they hang onto outdated or disproven information; Sadly, I have met enough Doctors that still think HIV is only a "gay" illness or that handshaking is an HIV risk, so if that's your concern, don't google because you will really shit yourself.

What you posted here isn't an HIV risk. What you do with the assessment or not is up to you. Next time ensure it's washed to reduce the risk of other infections.

(Edited for spelling, was answering on my phone earlier)

Oh and to be clear, if there ever was indeed a confirmed corner case in the future similar to your concern, as HIV isn't going anywhere soon, I easily think another 40 years at least, then the risk assessment for you would still be ; No HIV risk and to move on with your life.

Hope that helps. Take it easy
