Epzicom and Kaletra and gasses??? What to do?
« on: January 01, 2009, 07:29:16 am »
Hi there,

A Belgian friend of mine has gas problems that really are embarrassing.
He is on Epzicom and Kaletra.

Any advice on what could be done to help him get rid of them?

thnx

I take this for that problem, and it pretty much got rid of bloating/gas.  If you don't have that where you live, and you probably don't, look for a digestive pancreatic enzyme that is buffered, entric-coated and delayed released so that it gets to the intestinal tract.

Quote
The active enzymes hydrolyze fats into glycerol and fatty acids, proteins into peptides and amino acids, and starches into dextrins and maltose.

PANCRECARB® provides safe and effective digestive enzyme supplementation therapy, which may result in a rapid, significant reduction in abdominal pain, cramps, flatulence and stool frequency associated with poor digestion of foods.

Digestive enzyme supplementation therapy is known to help intestinal regularity and general health.

The actual contents are:

Lipsase 8,000 U.S.P.
Amylase 40,000 U.S.P.
Protease 45,000 U.S.P.

I've been taking this now daily for the last 3 years at the recommendation of my HIV specialist, and my previous decade of digestive issues has been radically improved.

My GI doctor has me on Metoclopramide (Reglan is the brand name in the US).

I take it 30 mins before each meal but for some people there are major side effects.  I've never had a problem although it can change absorptions rates of medicines so that needs to be watched.

I hope your friend finds relief.

Hey Hermie,

I have seen good results with the Pancrecarb. I may start taking it myself soon.

HUGS and Happy New Year to you!

Pancrecarb doesn't interfere with absorption -- in fact it greatly helps with absorption.

If anyone goes that route just a word of advice:  you have to play around with the dosing until you find the right amount for your bloating/cramping issues.  It's not an "as needed" type of thing either, you need to take it regularly with each dose of HIV meds, so I take it twice a day.

Good to know ... I'll have to look into it as well.

Reglan can sometimes decrease drugs that are absorbed through the stomach since it lessens the time the drugs are actually in the stomach.  Conversely since it moves food (and drugs) into the small intestine faster it can increase the effects of drugs absorbed through the small intestine.
