Funny you should mention this... I went into Manhunt and changed everything to 'Ask Me' and deleted all words except for physical description.

I get an email from a guy just unlocking his pics, he looked pretty good, so I unlocked mine for him, and I get the following reply;

Since Manhunt is quite the voyeuristic site, I know he's opened my email. To this day he hasn't deleted it, he was last online yesterday, and has not replied!!

Same here I changed my profile to "poz" then I got harassed by either people saying "see, I knew you were poz, liar", or "hey nasty pig let's swap loads" so i removed the information right away, after reading that disclosing to the world might not be a good idea. I disclose on a case by case basis now.

ive changed my profiles to say "poz" and havent had any bad experiences (yet)....I hide my face though and unlock to the people i want to.... I didnt change my screen name though and ive had the same screen name everywhere (except this site because i was paranoid at first when i joined here lol) so everyone already knows its me i guess.....

good for you for feeling comfortably enough to disclose your status... although i guess its not the most comfortable route for everyone ......everyone seems to have different individual opinions on how to handle disclosure based on experiences/personality :-D....

This has been my experience exactly. But Ft Lauderdale is burgeoning with gay guys, most new arrivals separated by their friends and family. And despite the poor services, the HIV+ population here is enormous.

As a strict serosorter, I just see it as separating the wheat from the chaff. I'd have no interest in pursuing a hook-up with a neg anyways.

Pix make a huge difference. Just lock the face pix if you're concerned about anonymity.

I did the same on gaydar without pics and got several replies and a few from unhinged people. One guy accused me of telling everyone on gaydar he was poz. Another just wanting to bb. So back to little old me face and all but without the poz bit.

Sometimes I wonder if the bit in profiles saying a 'positive outlook' means they are poz.

Since I am the type who likes to have a small air of mystery surrounding him, my MenschHunt profile says, "Ask me" regarding HIV status.

It's a nice way of saying "poz," but you get points when you tell them without having been asked in an email.

Hi Juan,

I met someone on a local men's site a couple of years ago. Actually, I was directed to him through other friends who thought he would be a great catch for me. He is poz, works in the healthcare field and was not the perfect one for me. However, we spent the past years being great friends and I will certainly miss him when he moves to Atlanta in the Fall.

He did meet someone on either gaydar or manhunt, don't really remember but they are both transferring their jiobs, renting a condo and plan on buying a house. I was on Planet out way back when all of those dates were disasters. Some people may say I am a bitch but I believe a man isn't a real man unless he is a bleached blond.

I have a good friend who will remain nameless. He's poz too. In fact he's my only real peer in this area. I see him on Manhunt all the time and he says he's negative in his profile. I don't get that. Of course he gets laid all the time and ironically, he SAYS with other POZ people! I guess his tricks say they are negative too in their profile. He tells me they f*ck bb of course, and I wonder when the disclosure happens.

He may be lying to me about something. Probably the disclosure part. I don't pursue negative people online because of uncomfortable disclosure reasons, so I have a feeling he tells people he's negative and, like idiots, they believe him.

I'm all about hot spontaneous sex but I would feel guilty if I hit it raw with someone and didn't tell them I was positive (beforehand, duh). Even if it is their responsibility, too. I am a little bitter that I'm honest but he gets laid and I don't. Thank god for porno.

That Manhunt shit is funny. I actually just erased my profile recently from there. The best way to use that site OR any of these pay sites for that matter is to not pay for them. You then save your self from knowing unnecessary information such as if he has looked at you email or not or if it was deleted. This way if he doesn't write ya back, he's not interested. Further if you haven't hooked up or swapped info by the time you run out of emails, it was probably time for you to log off anyway as it was'nt going to happen.

not pessimistic. realistic. you wont find love on those gay sites. just wont happen. people are there looking for sex. I thought I found love once, turned out to be a total lie. terrible. anyway point trying to be made.

Wow bud I think you totally missed the point. Its cool though. Simply agreeing with the over all frustration mentioned by most in this post. Its often that those pay sites are used instead of sites such as these or other support groups to, yes, find a significant other or mate. I like many have fallen victiim to there demise. I also like many have simply shared my experiance with those sites on a site in which Ithought is supposed to show support this one. I have always stated that I am hiv poz and have been for 24 years. I have had people ask me why didn't I just leave it blank I would probably get more dates and I said because it's a lie or a fantasy and I am one to be totally upfront about my status. Not only do I put in the designated area where they ask, I put it in the headline and in the profile and I still have to tell people when they hit on me that I am hiv positive because they don't read the profile, only look at the picture. Yes I have been treated badly by a lot of gay and bi men and some have been extremely hateful because for 1 I like BB but only with other poz people. I am not the giver of the gift and have never been bug chaser and have to watch for those 24/7. It is not a gift even though I wouldn't the man I amn today if the 4th man I had ever been with, finally let me hair down, gave it to me along with hep B and the clap. lucky me I felt I won the lottery. I just left a reply to a gentleman that was trying to stop people from being prejudice against HIV poz individuals but in his profile stated,"I have known a lot of hiv poz gay men, not that I had sex with them" that statement right there cancelled out anything prior to it. He also is prejudiced against hiv and most people don't realize the we have more to worry about catching something from them that could kill us then they do from us.

Well I created a NEW profile which says I'm poz, but my facepic is private now, and the results are quite different than the first try where I just updated my old profile to say poz.

No nasty messages anymore, 90% of the requests are from positive people (or "anything goes"), and they're nice, even the "i need some dick" ones, and the choice of disclosing my facepic when I want to is better for me. The rest is from neggies calling and my first reply is "u know i'm poz, right?" and so far only one had not seen the "hiv pos", and the others seemed to be aware of how to stay safe and be poz-friendly.

So far so good. My first attempt was not the right way to do it, apparently.

Disclosure is a learned activity that becomes easier with experience.

Maybe it's just Ft Bottomdale...I don't know. But my poz status hasn't interfered with my hook-ups at all. It actually makes it easier than winging it in bars.
