Do you drink water directly from the tap? If so, do you use a filter on it or maybe use Brita?
OR, do you buy your drinking water?
Just curious.

I buy water, I drink from the tap, and I have a brita pitcher.
Seattle has wonderful water, so I don't worry about it too much.
When I travel, I stick to bottled water.

I buy bottled water. We live in the country and have well water. I do have a water filter in the kitchen that I use to cook with and fill ice cube trays.

At home, I generally drink straight from the tap. Occasionally, when doing a bulk purchase of goodies over the internet, I will buy bulk bottled water.
We have filtered water at work, so when there I drink.
Whenever I travel OS, I only drink bottled water and only use bottled water to brush my teeth etc ;D

I use a filter on my kitchen tap, and try and drink only bottled water. Especially since my giardia experience a few years ago from drinking rural Tennessee water on vacation. My bathroom faucet won't handle a filtration thingy, so I brush my teeth with Atlanta water... which is supposedly pretty good, actually.
But I totally understand the wariness about water. Especially for those of us with significantly compromised immune systems. Giardia is no fun, nor is cryptosporidium.

I have a well and it has a sediment filter. I drink from the tap all the time. The only time I buy bottled water is when I need a bottle. I have avoided drinking tap water when I have been in other countries.

Straight from the tap, but getting Brita. Drinking tap water in most countries outside of North America and Western Europe (and I suppose Japan, Australia, and NZ as well) is potentially suicidal. At my parents' home (Bombay) all water used for drinking and cooking is boiled and then filtered twice.

Like most French, I drank Evian from as long as I can remember. However, it's been more than five years now that I've switched from plastic to glass bottled water. Why? It's been the talk of the town for sometimes now that plastic bottles are potentially bad i.e. cancerous to your health. Truth or hipe? Who knows...

Brita-filtered tap water, unless I'm thirsty when I'm out somewhere then bottled spring water only.

Here in the south we make a very lovely drink called an 'Ice-Pick'. It's vodka and ice-tea...no sugar you weenies.

My local tap water is friggin terrible, We installed an inline water filter for the kitchen and theres a noticable difference in the quality of our cooked veggies, soups and stocks. This remnds me of a line from Alton Browns cookbook,
"Ive seen cooks spend all morning at the farmers Market, hand picking the finest designer-organic-heirloom vegetables, only to chuck them straight into a pot of tap water that smells like the kiddie pool at the Y"
I'm not a water snob by any means, I used to hit the .25¢ reverse Osmosis machine at the supermarket every week, but that got to be a pain in the ass after awhile.

I use a PUR water fitler from Target. In Minneapolis we get our water from the Mississippi, which actually isn't so bad since we're the first major city on the river, but still not so hot.

Total water snob and have been for years. I only drink bottles water. Even if it means carrying my own bottle to a restaraunt.

I nearly died from Crypto and Giardia in '99 (and that was Atlanta water, Jonathan!)
So keep using that filter!

If you really want the hot set up, there are 'Whole House' reverse Osmosis systems although I imagine that its fairly pricey, fans of the show 'Blowout' will probablly remember Jonathans shower filter Jonathans water thing (http://www.sephora.com/browse/brand_hierarchy.jhtml?brandId=5797&contentId=C12500) that goes for 95 bucks, but then again if youre caughing up $300 for a haircut, its probablly not a problem..
A nice trend Ive noticed with new refrigerators is a built in water filter for both the ice and water dispenser.
In the US, they have guidelines for bottled water so its not all created equal..yep most of it is just filtered water from the local water supply but Spring Water has to come from a Natural Spring, Mineral water has to have a certain mineral Content, Naturally Sparkling water must come from the spring with Bubbles...Glacier water must actually come from a Glacier etc....
Ive heard that the drinking water in restaraunts is almost always filtered, since they have systems set up to soften the water for the dishwashers and coffeemakers and cooking. It still doesnt stop them from pushing overpriced bottled water, although I recently found a place that gives you a complimentary bottle of spring water which is a nice touch that I wish more restaraunts would do.
I believe that water filters have been approved by ADAP but Im not sure of the details...

I boil all my drinking water and then refrigerate it. Here in NYC there is much hype about how great our water is supposed to be, but this is a crock. It may taste fine, but you can't taste crypto, and I have known too many HIV+'s with crypto here in New York; one died from it in the days before HAART. Environmental groups warn about the serious drainage problems from the dairy farms (cow shit) in upstate New York, where the city's reservoirs are. Even the completely incompetent federal EPA keeps threatening New York City with having to install a five-billion dollar filtration system. The current filtration system does absolutely nothing to prevent cryptosporidium.
