I'm thinking about having my temples treated. I'm beginning to acquire a Cromagnum look (spelling?). There is a noticable "fall away" from the outside edge of the top of my eyebrows... where the top of my eye socket sits. I was told my only recourse would be silcone. I'm really wary of it due to the possibility of migration.
Can anyone share their experiences with Silicone used in facial reconstruction?
I'm here in Atlanta and am thinking about going to Dr Brody... any comments on his work?

Saw a doc this week and we decided to use Juvederm to fill in my temples above my eyebrows. I am developing a distinct caveman look where my eyebrows are beginning to protrude from from my forehead.
The doc said silicone is an alternative, but he cautions against using it because the long term effects are unknown. Problem with juvederm is that it only lasts 6 - 9 month. However, there are few choices for fillers that work well in areas where the injection is closer to the surface (not deep into tissue like the cheeks).
I'll post back in a couple weeks with the results. I get my treatment next Friday and am actually looking forward to it. It's $650 total for 1CC, all inclusive. That's not the best price, but the doc is nice, experienced and the place is conveniently located.
I'm curious if anyone else has had any fillers injected into their forehead or between their eyes.

I am interested to know how it goes. Not familiar with Juvederm though. I am having NewFill/Sculptra done to my cheeks and have asked the doc who says he can also use this for the temples. He says that it has to be used in much smaller amounts than the cheeks but same product is OK. The good thing about this is that, in France, NewFill is reimbursed by Social security and so is part of the doc's fee.

I've had medical-grade silicone injected to restore the loss of my cheeks (stage 2). The correction looks and feels completely natural, and the cost was reasonable. It took roughly 4 treatments over the course of 7 months. My doctor was very conscious of the problem of over-correction, and so I saw him 1 mo, 2 mo, then 3 mo after the initial visit. It took about 10 years off my face. :)
There have been problems (allergic reactions, migration) with earlier, industrial silicone injected in volume into the skin. None of these problems have been noted with medical grade silicone injected using micro-droplet technique. My doctor has been doing this for over 5 years in the US, and this procedure has been used in Europe even longer than that.
The long-term effects, as with all fillers, temporary and permanent, are unknown. This procedure is not recommended if you play contact sports.

Back in 2003 I had a series of 7 treatments, over 7 months (using the microdroplet technique), for a total of 7 cc's on each side of my face, using a product called SilSkin. (highly purified Silicone oil)
The treatments were performed in Vancouver BC, by Dr.s Alistar and Jean Carruthers.
I had both my cheeks and temples done, my facial wasting was pretty severe.
4 years later, I've had no migration, no deterioration, no problems what so ever.
Whatever filler product you use, the most important thing is making sure you are being treated by an experienced doctor.
The treatments literally transformed my life. It was one of the best things I did for myself.

Thanks to the responses to my questions about silicone. Also interesting to hear that a doc is using Sculptra for the temples. I did have one Sculptra injection in each temple, but that doc didn't feel that Scultptra could be used over a larger area outside of the major indentation of the temple.
The Juvederm was a success, although it is not really smooth. If you look closely, you can see there are a couple subtle bumps above my right eye. The doc did a better job with the left one... funny he thought he did the best work on the lumpy side! I believe one syringe was not really enough and he could have done a better job if he would have gone for another one. I believe he feels some guilt if he takes too much $$$ for something he probably thinks is trivial. He just did one syringe in about 15 minutes and was gone.
It is nothing like sculptra. It was like a very thick jell. There are a couple varieties and I should have ask which one he used, but I'm assuming it was the thickest. It literally just sits where it is injected. You really don't develop tissue around it, so you can see the final results almost immediately. You can also feel it under the skin and he told me not to go crazy and try to mold it into a different shape or position because I might move it. I did have some really minor bruising show up about 3 days later, but it is pretty much invisible except to me. The effect, at least to me, was somewhat dramatic. It filled in the depressions above my eyes and restored some of the shape of my face when looking at myself straight on in the mirror. It should last about six months and cost $650. That seems to be a ballpark charge for a single syringe. Nice payday for the doc because he probably pays around $400 - 425 for the syringe.
I'm seriously considering silicone down the road. I would like to have a much larger area done. This practice does do silicone also and told me they could do that if I really wanted... so that is an option in the future.

I understand that when using silicone it should be "micro-droplet" technique, and it's very important that an experienced doctor do it. Dr. Derek Jones in LA is highly recommended. Check out this link:

Hi. Far from Atlanta. Very glad I chose to have 2 silicone treatments (microdroplets) over 4 years ago. I am not aware of any migration or other problems. For whatever reason, I need a bit more again (noticeable for last 3 mos.) and have just had 1 of 2 new treatments. Obviously, I am happy or wouldn't go back to same MD for same treatment. Cost a little under $2k, and possibly it will be covered by insurance (hah!) this time. Dr. Harvey Abrams, Los Angeles. I see no reason to treat the temples differently than other parts of face, at least not with this treatment.
PS If any of you have severe Lipo symptoms, especially buffalo hump, he could probably treat for free due to involvement in a clinical study that will pick up the tab.

Personally, I had 2 treatments with silicone, about 3 o 4 yrs ago. I still need about 1 o 2 more treatments, so far since then I havent had any problems at all, no secondary effects or migration
