Why not give a ring to your doctors office and ask?  Most HIV docs have seen numerous cases of abnormal testosterone levels in HIV+ men.  This would not be an "odd" topic to bring up with him(her).  If you are concerned your levels are low, they will probably recommend a blood test to ensure your levels are in the normal range.  If not, you can be treated for it.

YES!  As sdguy mentions, don't hesitate to call your doctor and ask about whether it will interfer with your meds.  Last thing you want are absorption issues.  You can also check the cool handy med interaction tool provided by this site.

This info might be dated but don't some doctors prescribe a limited dose of steroids to hiv+ men?  Something like a 12 week course?

So, again...why not ask your doc and tell him(her) that you're looking to build more muscle mass, but you're having a hard time doing it and you want to see if (s)he can check your testosterone level?  If your levels are low, you'll get the "real stuff" and don't have to tinker around with prohormones.

Also, sorry to break the news to you, but the effectiveness of "prohormones" is not going to help (or will be negligible) if your testosterone is already low.

There are quite a number of prohormones.  Which one(s) were you taking?  I take DHEA and that is a safe prohormone.

Hey,
My testosterone levels were low and my doctor prescribed Androgel 1% to get my numbers up. I was genetically always somewhat muscular, but that topical gel made a definite difference. Put it on the shoulders not the stomach initially. Ask doc. Good Luck

I think it depends on the doctor.  My doctor was only willing to prescribe steroids (or HGH, which I am on) because I lost over 10% of my body mass due to illness.  He said (or implied) he wouldn't have prescribed it if I were healthy and my weight was normal.  However, I have heard of a doctor in my area that sounds a little more loosey-goosey with the steroids for HIV+ men.
