Genvoya's Weird Side Effects...or is it?
« on: July 10, 2016, 12:30:16 am »
I've been taking Genvoya for about three months and have been experiencing some weird side effects and I'm unsure if others have experienced it as well.  There are some days I find myself with slow thought process, unable to articulate well or find it hard to think of words and putting them together in sentences, I've said things and and a minute later I tend to forget what I've said and at times feel unable to focus.

I'm wondering if anyone had similar experiences? I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of weeks to discuss these experiences.

When you find out what is causing it let me know because you described me perfectly!  I originally was on Atripla, then switched to Stribild and took my first pill of Genvoya tonight...

I`m on day 8 of Genvoya..also taking Septrim.

I think it was on day 3 when i was talking to my sister,i seemed to lose the power of speech momentarily, like a little stroke, mumbly and couldn`t seem to find the words, really had to force myself to concentrate. It was certainly very unusual for me and have never experienced anything like it before.I went to bed and was totally fine the morning after.Since then ,nothing i`m pleased to say.
I have no sides now -no nausea etc, just a crazy break out of acne around my nose and chin...for which i`m using Zach`s proprietary blend or to give it it`s proper name,Castile soap which seems to be doing the job. Thanks Zach.

I guess it might be wise to consult your Doctor if it persists.

Good luck,P.

Ok - I was just nodding my head in agreement on the topic but your post hit the nerve.  Two weeks ago, I woke up from a nap and after about three minutes had to say something to the partner. I couldn't speak!  I was fine - vision fine, felt fine, BP fine....all fine.  I just couldn't form words. My mind was clearly saying (in my head) what I wanted to come out of my mouth but nothing coherent did.  At first, I thought I was having a stroke but in about two minutes everything came back to normal.

I switched to Genvoya a few months ago from Stribild.  Stribild - no side effects.  Once I started on Genvoya it seems that my short term memory is very much...well....shorter!  I seriously can take the pill walk into the living room sit down and then wonder if I took the pill or not.  After double-dosing a couple times (which is right up there with a Tequila hangover), I now have went back to the pill box.  It makes no sense to me.  It's simply 'less' of a drug instead of the regular Stribild regimen.

I haven't brought up these episodes to my doctor since I don't have a follow-up for another month.  He conveyed to me that I should expect nothing to change since it is the same drug only less.  I recall him making a comment when he switched me that he did have one patient that had some issues but he quickly changed the topic.  Now, I'm wondering!

I would expect the lack of memory and speech issues with age - but not like this.

And - yeah - Zach's soap is a game changer!

Hey Dan,

All`s well on Genvoya with me so far.
Wish i could agree on the memory front but that is the way i generally am.Long term memory suks, short term seems to be heading in the same direction.I write everything down and make sure once a day to sit still and focus on the really important stuff..like I have Hiv/aids.That might sound a little strange but to all intents and purposes i feel very well.I make sure i come here to the forum daily, that sobers me up quickly. One doesn`t know what challenges tomorrow brings so presence of mind/mindfulness becomes important. The cliche of taking each day as it comes is now a brute reality and a discipline i am still trying to master.

Obviously keep a close eye on that as will i..but talk to your Doctor if another incident occurs.Once maybe anomalous but twice to me at least, is a warning. It`s only a phone call.Do It.

All the very best,P.
