Title: Route
Post by: wolfter on July 23, 2012, 01:03:56 pm
I tried to find the previous posts on what to do to get to the hotel from the Airport.  Had no luck so I apologize for starting another thread.  I already forgot what was written about the different methods.  This easily confused individual needs guidance now that we're close to the time.

It's easy, look for the big "M" and pay $1.85, get on the train, when it starts going count to 600 then get off. Walk to hotel.

Rail Departs from NATIONAL AIRPORT METRO STATION at 2:17pm
Board BLUE LINE Rail towards LARGO TOWN CTR
Arrive ROSSLYN METRO STATION at 2:27pm

See you there!

That is the kind of direction I like--Count Dracula!

Actually I was wrong about the cost. The cost is $1 more if you're just using a regular fare card, and varies according to the time of day. So it's going to be more like $3.30 when Santi and I get there late in the afternoon. I think I'll just throw $20 on each of two farecards and see if that'll get us through Sunday. If he has more money left on his card than airport fare we'll just get him another card and I'll use up the rest of the bigger balance.

Gary, I tried to explain to my hubby Bob, but, he was insistent on using another method
he didn't want to take the Metro during rush-hour, so being the good hubby that I'm I told him
"Yes Dear will do your way", as he says he always right , and that I should listen to him  ;D

Denb45,

Way back when, when I had a husband...he was ALWAYS right, well, except, when I was...   :)  You will hear his name if you are at the Memorial Service.  The love of my life and even though December 29, 1993 is a quite some time in the past, it often seems like this morning to me.  That's why I love the Memorial Service.

Looking forward to meeting the new AMG attendees as well as reuniting with those who have been before.

Thanks Gary, was heading to bed and checked the forums one last time.  Your post brought a smile (the good sorrowful kind) to my face.  Even with Bill being gone for 5 years now, I still find it difficult at times for him not to be here.

I was fortunate that we never disagreed on who was correct.  It's quite obvious....lol  many thought I was submissive and they were mostly correct, but I also got my way when necesary or wanted.   :o

Looking forward to your message this year.  I doubt you'll defy gravity and top last year's message. ;D

Oh, BTW, thanks for the answers on how to get to the hotel.  I've never been on a subway and hope I don't look too touristy lugging 2 suitcases.   At least I know the answer for when someone asks me for change.... ;D  Thanks Mark.

And you plan on going through this process (http://www.wmata.com/accessibility/metroaccess_eligibility.cfm) for a 4 day trip?

I've not tried it when I'm down there. Sometimes you can get away with it in Philadelphia if the token attendant is nice, but technically you're supposed to get a permanent card and go through the application process. But our subway systen doesn't yet use a fully automatic/electronic fare card system either, like DC and NYC. They would probably laugh at anyone that tried flashing a Medicare card in NYC.

Think of it this way -- imagine if everyone wanted to just flash a Medicare card. It slows everything down on a busy transit system.

Plus I'm not sure why a non-resident should get a discount in the first place.

Well you'd totally flip out if you saw some of the things we lug on the train here in NYC.

D--take your card and talk to a real person at the station and try. Maybe it'll work out okay. Can't hurt to try.

I went ahead and printed off step by step instructions.  I'ts 18 minutes to the hotel and only costs $2.35

Printed my boarding pass, paid online for checked luggage and I think I should be set to go.

One last dumb question, how do we get to the hotel once we arrive at Metro Station?
