Need info on Amtrak to Boston
« on: April 24, 2009, 09:35:16 pm »
I logged on to Amtrak.com to see times and prices to Boston from NYC...I remembered someone posting that Back Bay did not accept check in luggage but South station did.  But when I called 1-800-USARAIL for amtrack info the customer rep said there was only one check in for a large bag I would need for 7 days and that would be on a train leaving NY's Pennsylvania station at 3 am and I don't particularly want to leave at such a time...You would think there would be a train with one check in time in the afternoon at least.  I wonder if ACELA has more trains with check in for luggage.  Oh well, maybe I will just fly.

Sad but true.

From NYP only train 66 has a baggage car and it leaves NY at 315a & arrives in BOS at 752a.

The reverse is train 67 leaving BOS at 945p arriving NYP at 148a.

Amtrak's ACELA trains do not have baggage cars.

If you wish to travel by train, you & your luggage do not have to take the same train.  You can check your baggage in a day early and have it waiting for you in Boston or if you prefer it can follow you on that 3am train and you can pick it up the next morning.  I know ... not exactly ideal but when a country subsidizes their passenger rail system at a lower per capita amount than Bangladesh you can't expect world class service.  ;)

Amtrak will allow you bring upto two suitcases on-board with you as long as you can lift them up onto the overhead rack.

I hope that helps,
AA (your friendly former Amtrak employee)
