I recently started working part time in my childrens school and have become aware of how crazy people name thier kids and how atrosiously they spell them. This past weekend I was a labor coach for my friend and I asked two of the nurses what was the strangest name they have heard?
Here they go:
DiamondTiara
Luke Skywalker
Chevy Ford
My personal favorite was Courtesy Booth, although they said courtesy was spelled wrong and couldn't remember how.
and then there was long word for vomit? Emetris or something? I had never heard of it before.
What have you heard?
-
how atrosiously they spell them
Hehehehe it's "atrociously" sweetheart
One of my best friend's mother's works at a children's clinic and she has literally pages of names. She writes them down when she gets a laugh out of them.

LOL, sadly, I used the spell check too.
It is very amusing but frustrating at times because the parents get aggravated with me when I miss-spell a miss-spelled name? I can finally remember to spell Honesty, A-N-A-S-T-I-E.

I actually use Mozilla Firefox which has a spell check built into it. If I've misspelled a word it's underlined in red. The words I typically misspell are knowledgeable and anything ending in e with able attached as a suffix I always want to drop the E somewhat akin to judgmental.
-
Inconvienence is my stumper.
LOL, did it again, forgot the second N.
Im always telling everyone "with an e" when they spell my last name.
-
i have to spell my name for most people. people who have never met me have a hard time recognizing my name if i give them my info over the phone. 30% of the acquaintances i know cannot pronounce my name correctly.
strangest name?
trey....

My brother-in-law is an OB-GYN doc and has come across many crazy names. One was La-sha, pronounces LaDasha. They actually used a dash. I remember Earl from "My Name Is Earl" named his child in real life, Pilot Inspector.
I saw a report where a child's name has a lot to do with how successful they will be. If it is some strange name, many employers will pass over their resume. They also talked about how there are a lot of dentists name Dennis. They gave other examples like that which I can't remember right now.
-
I recently met a woman whose married name was Lotta Dick. Met a boy whose name was LaPrecious, which I think borders on child abuse. Worst girl name: Prunella.

OMG!! That's hysterical!

I believe it, I imagine it can either make them more or less confident as well. Depending how the kids treat them in school growing up. I had two idiots that used to howl everytime they saw me because of my last name, LOL.
Geez, GSO, I am starting to appreciate my boring name more and more.

Yep! Children of Frank Zappa

I heard a mother call her child "Vinyl Dinette" at the Del Amo Mall once but my personal favorite I am saving for myself... Yes! I plan on having my name legally changed to "Outhouse." Of course, I will be more cosmopolitan and pronounce it "O'Thoosay"
There was of course a legal secretary in the South Bay who typed 100 words per minute with no errors and was one of the most stunning woman I had ever met. Her name was "Latrina" ;D Have the best day
Latrina Outhouse

Another unfortunate name choice from someone I have met: Messiah. Talk about having unrealistic expectation of your child!

What I don't get is the tons of Latino parents who name their kids Jesus. I mean seriously? No Irish Catholic goes around naming their kid Jesus, its just the Latino Catholics. Maybe its okay because its pronounced differently. But I stilll think its a little insulting to believe in a God and then name your child after that same God, because that kid sure as hell is going to be putting the name to shame. Just my two cents.

Edna-Mae Graham Cracker.

Just cause Irish Catholics don't do it, doesn't make it wrong. It's cultural and I doubt God cares.
Actually if he's OK with Irish Catholics putting his name on bumper stickers, I'm sure he doesn't mind a Latino naming a child after him.

There was a thread on this subject some time back. It seems that there was a child in New Zealand ( I think) whos parents named her, Tallulah Does The Hula From Hawaii. The state took custody of the child in order for her to be able to change her name to somehting less ridiculous, as the parents wouldn't let the girl do it.

My dad had a friend who owned a Chevrolet dealership. His name was Harry Peters ;D Have the best day
Latrina Outhouse (pronounced O'Thoosay)

Some names are just nicer in another language. ....Gertrude sounds really nice in German.

Okay,
Here's one I ran across yesterday. There was a student group on campus today, and they were all wearing name tags. As they passed by where I was working, I noticed that a girl had the name "Jesusita"
I quite imagine that had the Big C stayed dead, He would have been spinning in his grave at, oh, 20,000 rpm or so....

I remember 2 brothers who would be in their 60's by now. Sonny Beach and Sandy Beach. In the same Mendocino County community there was a business partnership called "Hunt and Steele, Certified Public Accountants" ;D Have the best day

Technically it wasn't her name yet, but I was doing an audit last year and ran across an unmarried couple. Her last name was Long, and his last name was Coq. I about lost it with the idea of them getting married and her hyphenating her last name to become Mrs. Long-Coq... I literally copied the paperwork and distributed it all over the office. Of course I was the only one mildy amused by it, but I appreciated it!

I had a cuddly toy that had a baby shaped body, round head with long floppy ears, and a really cute rabbit face called Gertrude when I was a toddler and small child. We were inseparable and I used to cry and get really upset if my my mother called her Gert or Gertie. When we first met it was love at first sight even though she was nearly as big as me.
Ah, memories. :)
