Title: Really concerened , should i get tested?
Post by: Uts89 on March 01, 2013, 09:30:50 am
Hi all

I am really concerned about my current situation , about 18 days ago from now , i had unprotected vaginal sex with a girl, the vaginal sex lasted no longer than 30 seconds as i freaked out and regained my sense and thought about the consequences, i didnt know much about the girl just that she was 26 yrs old and had had about 20 partners , the other thing i am worrying about is that i fingered the girl for around 5 minutes and noticied afterwards i had a small cut on my finger which was probably at that point about 5 days old.

Anyway fast forward 18 days , now i have a bacterial mouth infection on the back of my tongue, and also on my tonsils , i also have slight cough which feels like it is on my chest ( wet cough) however i have not long come off a short vacation where i drank alcohol consistantly over 3 days and kissed a couple of girls.

From what i have described , what is the likely hood i have hiv ? And should i get tested?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Hi Uts89 . I read your post carefully and see that you have had unprotected sex . Since you had unprotected sex its best that you do go and take an HIV test as well as a complete sexual health check up also if you haven't had one recently .

The symptoms you wrote about are not specific to HIV so its no good trying to guess your HIV status based on symptoms that could be caused from many things other than HIV .

The vast majority of people who test positive will show antibodies when testing with a rapid oral HIV test within 4 to 6 weeks but to be certain you will need to retest at 3 months .

Chances are you are HIV negative but the only way to know is to test at the appropriate time . You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

Thankyou for your advice jeff g much appreciated, just one more question , about me having a cut on my finger whilst doing the deed, will this increase my chances of catching hiv?

The cut on your finger is nothing to worry over , slight changes in PH and temperature renders HIV unable to infect once its exposed to conditions outside of ones body  . There have not been any evidence or documented cases where HIV is a concern in the manner you shared because that's not how HIV is transmitted . Its safe for you to put the cut finger out of your mind when evaluating your risk/fears of transmission .
