Astragalus - Is this good for me?
« on: December 11, 2006, 05:39:12 am »
Hi all

Does anyone know anything about this herb?

I was diagnosed nearly 12 months ago and my cd4 count was 220 and vl was 15000. I have been going to the doctor monthly and then 3 monthly. During that time my cd4 count has doubled and my % has gone from 20 to 32 while my vl has stayed the same. Is this right? the only thing i know that i have been taking since i was diagnosed is a vitamin with olive leaf extract and Astragalus. I'm not sure what is going on and was wondering if anyone had tried this herb? I worried that in the long run this herb may cause me some grief.

This is what I found on it....Its used in Chinese Medicine remedies:
The astralagus root is used to promote wound healing and stimulate the immune system by boosting white blood cell production and coaxing them to work harder. Several studies conducted in China found that astralagus improved survival in some cancer patients, however the quality of these trials is doubtful, thus the value of these findings is limited. Studies suggest that oral or nasal use of the herb may also protect against the common cold and flu.
