Title: 20 weeks negative
Post by: bufalo21 on March 24, 2007, 02:59:18 am
hi everybody.I have a question.I'm a 27 white male and On 11 november 2006 I had unprotected sex with a black girl whom I didn't knew before. The fact is that around January 15 I started to cough really bad, i had a little bit of fever for 5-6 days and I started to freak out about HIV infection.I went and got tested at 70 days(10 weeks) with an ELISA test and it was negative. After that,I started to feel even worse, headaches, sore throat and muscles, limf nodes swollen.I went back and got tested at 98 days(14 weeks)again with ELISA and again negative.Tha fact is that I don't know what generation they are.I'm still not good,(my limf nodes are still swollen and i have tinglings in my arms and sore arms & muscles).Do you think I should get tested again? Thanks so much for answering..

You've had a conclusive negative HIV test, so your illness is unrelated to HIV. See a doctor..

Buf, you have reliably tested negative for HIV. The CDC recommends testing at 13 weeks and you went even beyond that, so HIV is absolutely not your issue.

However, you do need to learn from this experience. Neither the race nor any other factors matter in terms of whom you have intercourse with as long as you always, without exception, wear a latex condom. That's your responsibility to do that. Condoms provide very effective protection. So use one everytime no matter whom you are with and no matter what you think you know about their history.

As for your symptoms, that's something to discuss with your doctor. They have nothing to do with HIV. Period. End of story.

buf,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread (http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=220.0) so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

Your negative result is not surprising as you had already tested conclusively hiv negative.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Use condoms correctly and consistently and you will remain hiv negative.
