I think it's great that this position requires the applicant be HIV +.  Too bad it's a grant position.  Hopefully the person that gets the job can sell their value to Sr. Management.

The HIV Peer Counselor provides peer support to HIV persons in the ambulatory care setting and follows up with them by telephone calls, scheduled appointments, or when they return to the Infectious diseases clinic.  They provide information and promotes self empowerment, skills and resources to improve self-care, quality of life, adherence and satisfaction of care.  Work is performed under the direct supervision of the program supervisor. This position is funded by a grant, consequently the continuation and compensation, etc, is depended on the continuation and changes in the grant.
Required Skills

    * Must have been diagnosed with HIV and receiving care at **** Medical Centers for not less than 12 months
    * Bi-lingual, Spanish and English is preferred

Yeah Phil and I talked about me getting a job like that, but there's nothing anything even remotely like that around here.  Speaking of, has anyone heard from Phil since his colonoscopy/endoscopy double whammy?

I believe most of us who have HIV have spent a lot of time educating ourselves on the virus and the reality it has on our every day lives.  In addition to this we can relate directly to the experience of someone who is newly infected and empathize with what they're going though.  Being negative in this same positions seems like a pretty big disadvantage.  In the same vein there was a thread about support groups and pretty much everyone on this site was under the impression that whoever runs the support group should be positive as someone who is negative just doesn't "get it".
