Hey guys, Recently diagnosed and hanging in there
« on: December 08, 2011, 03:04:30 pm »
Hey guys, I just found out I was + the week before thanksgiving. Since then I have been on a little bit of a roller coaster from somewhat coping, to sad, to i don't even know. Things happen so fast its hard to keep up sometimes. I scheduled an apointment with an ID doc and had my blood drawn. Well today I got the results back and here they are:  CD4-708  and VL 27,000 . I kind of broke down in the office with the doc because receiving the results almost felt surreal and the reality of it all has suddently set in. Trying to manage a whirlwind of feelings, extremely busy with work, and have an interview for next week for a gig I really want. Just trying to remain hopeful and just get by :-[

First things first;  take a deep breath and relax.  No need to sugarcoat anything, but you have one hell of a journey ahead of you.  Knowledge is power so start learning.  You've made great strides by reaching out.

Take care and maintain positive mental health.

Hey csguy1,

Welcome to the forums. We all know exactly how you feel, it's normally for your emotions to be all over the place but give yourself some time to adjust :) I''m sure in time you'll be feeling much better emotionally.

I found telling one of my best friends really helped me come to terms with things.

Your numbers are really good so you are in no rush to start taking any meds unless you feel you want to. You've obviously found out nice and early so your Doc will be keeping a close eye on your immune system to keep it in good order ;))

This site is full of very knowledgable people, I find it a great help. I'm sure you will too.

Hugs

wolfter - thanks for the words of advice. I hope it's not that bumpy one for me and I can keep my health intact.

newkrr - Thanks for the words of wisdom. I will eventually tell my best friend as soon as I am ready.

Again just trying to hang in there! :(
