First time using Humana today

Well ,I called in a prescription for Viramune, Epzicom and Viread this morning, And managed to pick that up this afternoon from Walgreens. Even though I had at least a one month back-up of HIV meds From Aetna, which ended on December 31st, I wanted to get the ball rolling with Humana, just to make sure there would be no complications. And there weren"t. So that's good. ( And a relief). The meds were also cheaper than under Aetna. It was $30.00 for each med, totalling $ 90.00 per month. Aetna used to charge me a $50.00 co-pay for Epzicom. Humana only charges $30.00 . That's a 220.00 savings per year. Every little bit helps.

I was looking at the prices of the meds. I don't remember Epzicom being $932.99 per month ( if I had to pay for it out of pocket. That seems like an increase to me. I will have to check on that, on some of my older prescription receipts.

Viread's cost was $648.99 per month.

And Viramune's cost was $484.99


On another note, I decided to move up my doctors appointment. I was scheduled for my 3 month blood tests on Feb 18th, so I went to the doctors office this afternoon, and got it moved up to this coming Monday, January 14th. I wanted to get everything in motion with Humana.

Hey Ray,

It's great that your scripts went through without a hassle with Humana. I know whenever I have had to switch it has been a concern.

I'm on Humana as well.  Wallgreens has a deal with Humana where I get a break on a 3 month supply of HIV drugs.  Ask, you never know!

Welcome, And thanks for the info. I was pretty sure, at the open enrollment for Humana, that the option of getting 3 months supply of meds ( to help cut the co-pay) was not available under our group plan, that the company selected. ( Maybe I'm wrong !...) But I will have to check into that again.

I am also on Humana and when I use Mail-order refills I save over 45.00 per preferred brand and 90 day supply of geerics are $0 co-pay Check it out on the Humana website :P

I saw a commercial today about Humana & was rather impressed about what it said .
 Now knowing what the commercial prosposed and that my sister ( not a poz one ) is using  Humana and has said that it was the best one could get for part d beacuse there was no monthly fee and most of her co-pays were under what the norl for them was .
 ( now as to what she was indicating as the norm is unknown beacuse we did not have enough time for me tog et furthe details about them ).
 Now having  been with Bc/Bs for the past two years and just last month I had two prescriptions ( just the 2 mind you  & one of them wasn't even for the usual 120 klaetra but only half which trasnlates to 60  because of the np's screw up along with mine siince I was in such a hurry   to get out of there   I said my fault as well because I didn't follow my own rule to always read and check to see if I had any questions about my scripts .)
  The aforementioned two scripts cost me a grand total of  ( drum roll please ! ) $909.39 dollars  .
 One good part  about all this was that the social worker at the hospital had already informed me of what to do when I recahed the so called doughnut hole ( after I had taken the initative to ask beacuse I was originally  told about this from a pharmacy tech and the pharmacist in the pharmacy dedicated for  us ) that there was a way for me to be able to get back on adap since I reached the gap and  this saved both me & my id dr the time and effort of going thru pparx again this year so Humana is beginning  too look awfully good for next year but as always tanstafl

So far no problem with the prescriptions. On the down side, Humana is not covering a major portion of my demotology expenses.  I went about a month ago, to have some things removed, And I had to pay 199.00 out of pocket, besides the $45.00 c0-pay. I wasn't on the table more than 3 minutes. Aetna used to cover all those expenses ... I visit my dermotologist, almost as often ( if not more so than my ID doctor.) Dermatologists and dentists....WAY TOO EXPENSIVE !!
