Directions to the AIDS Memorial Grove
« on: August 02, 2007, 07:41:21 pm »
The National AIDS Memorial Grove is located in Golden Gate Park on Middle Drive & Bowling Green Drive, just off JFK Drive. Maps posted at the entrances to the Grove will help you find "The Circle of Friends," the location for the AIDS memorial service. Look for a clearing with a spiral of inscribed paving stones.

The AIDS Memorial Grove is about 4 miles from the hotel. Taxi fare plus tip would be about $15.00. Up to four people can share the ride.

Public transportation (Muni) is the cheapest, especially since you will have a free Muni passport (thank you, Dennis). There are a number of Muni options. The N-JUDAH light rail runs underground from the Powell St. station. The #5, 21, and 71 buses stop at Market at or near Powell Street (on the same side of Market as the hotel).

I marked the Muni stops on the attached map, so you can use it to navigate to the AIDS Memorial Grove (marked AMG on the map).

Once you've boarded, the trip takes about 30 minutes.

N-JUDAH to Carl St. & Hillway Ave. (1)

71-NORIEGA to Arguello Blvd. (2)

5-FULTON or 21-HAYES to Fulton St. & Stanyan. (3)

(This is a general map of the park. The map with notations for the Muni stops is the attachment at the end of this post.)

I messed up the red codes for the Muni stops in my first post. I edited that post to correct it. Just wanted to let people know, in case you printed out the previous version.
