I would recommend going to Friends in Deed in SoHo and trying to get face time with Scott Berliner -- he's been around for ages.

He's a registered pharmacist and clinical nutritionist.  I'm quite sure he's also the guy who used to run the pharmacy on 2nd Avenue in the East Village.

I'd recommend Friends in Deed for lots of other things -- their support groups are the best I've been to in my 20 years of HIV, and they have excellent workshops and seminars.

btw, in terms of things like this if your HIV doctor can not give a referral to a nutritionist he's worked with previously then he kind of sucks.

My new HIV doc referred me to one but its not covered on basic insurance! Grrr
He wrote and contested this, the insurance company awarded me 2 sessions!

The times I saw a nutritionist I had clinically diagnosed HIV wasting so I didn't have a problem having services covered.  If you're just going outside of that scenario I'm not sure it would be covered, or some other more specific related issue being diagnosed.
