Plasmablastic Lymphoma (PBL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell lymphoma associated with HIV, but can also present in other immunocompromised individuals.  I'm afraid it has a rather poor prognosis even with chemotherapy.

I'm sorry for your friend.

ojo         Hi...an update on my friend's plasmablastic lymphoma...he has gone through four sesions of chimo, no lymphoma in his body...next chimo will be the stronger, he might be in the hospital for a month to recover, so far, he is doing great, let's cross our fingers, so, he is the lucky one whowill survive this kind of lymphoma...hugs                                                                                                                         ojo

ojo        Thanks Basquo and Wade...he is even UD now, amazing how this new meds work, I think it's been a month he started meds and he is UD already, it took me  to get a UD level, from 1885 to 2007, do the math...happy for him...hopefully he will beat the odds, I think he will do it...thanks again...hugs                                  ojo

             ojo        Hello all

An update on my best friend dealing with PBL, plamablastic lymphoma...last month, he got his last chemo treatment (6th) and the strongest one, before the treatment, he got some kind od medication to increase his white blood cells, then, the doctor extracted them and froze those cells (stem cell transplantation)...he got his chemo, six days, three days after his chemo treatment, he got back in his body, those frozen cells, he was doing ok, he was sent back home after being in the hospital for 20 days, he went back to the hospital the following day, started to get fevers, after some rough days in the ICU, he is back in his room, getting and feeling better...no signs of cancer though, hopefully, it will not come back for a while...amazingly, after being diagnosed with this cancer and aids last November, his VL is still UD, he doesn't know his cd4 because of the chemo treatment, but, his hiv combo (truvada, isentress) is still working...living with hiv/aids, for some of us, hasn't been easy, but, fighting it, it's worthy it, I'm proud of my best friend being a fighter and winning the battle to cancer, fighting hiv will be defetnetly easier...I stii wonder why he kept telling me has been tested for hiv, I guess, that's not important anymore...hugs                   ojo
