A little bit of Israel.
« on: February 06, 2009, 07:10:04 am »
I have recently started doing an Israeli guide course. It is the MOST amazing exciting, informative, interesting studies that I have ever done and I feel truely blessed that I am doing this course.
The course is 2 years  and we study Arcehology, Biblical History, History, topography, geology, fauna flora, first aid, and more. Once a week we have a class in the evenings and once a week we go on the MOST amazing tours of Israel.
This week we visited Mt Gilboa range, with a view of the Yizraeel valley. The photographs are taken from the top of Mt Shaul (Saul) Altitude 302 mt. The mountain was name after King Saul who was killed in battel against the Philistines (Samuel 1,31) on the Mount Gilboa.
It is so awe inspiring and stunning beautiful that I just had to share with you some photos.

There is an Israeli artist who lives on a Kibbutz in the area who is doing interesting things with the fields. He plants the crops in various places forming differnt shapes and pictures that can be seen from up on the mountains, Its quite phenominal and they say that the time to come and view it is in May/June.

They also do air gliding off from this peak.

Here are just a few of the many spring flowers in the area.
I  have loads of photographs and its so hard to selct a few. I would like to post them all.

This particular tour of this area is our 6th tour. I would be happy to share with you photos from the other days/tours. Israel is truely a stunning beautiful adverse land that is all within a very small space. From deserts to seas, to lakes to mountains.

Those pictures are truly beautiful thank you so much for sharing.   That course you are taking sounds incredible.  It must be really inspiring to live within all that history.  Please keep posting about your course!

Thanks,
AA

Many years ago I was in Israel. One day when I was in Haifa, workmen were in the process of clearing away sand in which a large, purple, Roman-era statue was being excavated from the sand alongside the sea. It was very well preserved and they had uncovered about half of it. It was pretty thrilling to see this beautiful artifact emerging after having been covered up for many centuries. History coming to life.

For anyone who savors history, Israel and the rest of the Middle East are endlessly rich and fascinating.

Archeoligic evidence shows humans inhabited this are as far back as the Paleolithic times, and continued to do so through the Early and Middle Bronze, Israeli, Roman, Byzantine periods. Israel is so rich with archeology.
These photos show the Northern section of the Dead sea. There are many springs that flow out from the mountians into the dead sea and EIn Fashcha is one very beautiful oasis. seen in the photos is this oasis.

The dead sea is in the Judean desert.

Leaving Ein Fashcha oasis and heading up into the Judean mountains along the dead sea.
The desertis astoundingly beautiful. Fantastic rock formations and wadis. During the winter months there can be flash floods sweeping through the wadis and its can be extremely dangerous if caught in one of the wadis during a flash flood.
Some photos of the view of the dead sea from the mountains, and the wild life and plants in the Judean desert.

This is Ein Gedi (Ein in Hebrew which means a Spring)
It is a fresh water spring that flows into the dead sea. One can walk up along the spring up into the mountains.
Some photos of the pools and waterfalls, and Incredible rock formations and a hyrex who are quite abundant in the area.
