Moving to USA
« on: September 25, 2014, 06:21:15 pm »
Hello everyone,

I am Uk citizen (+) over 3 years married with american (-)
We have been married in UK and we would like move together to USA...
I am on Stribild and doing very well on this medicine (is my first treatment)
medication is completely free for me here in UK.

Could someone please explain how much it will cost me to stay with Stribild in USA?
Will I be able to achieve any help with cost of medication as an European?
What I will need to do there regarding health care (applications, paperwork) ??

I will found job very easily in USA - my profession is on list of wanted professions.

Thank you very much for help.

Lots of love.
Lahir x

No one can tell you what it will cost, because that entirely depends on your situation.

You will need to purchase health insurance. You can obtain it from an employer in most cases, or through your spouse's employer via a family plan. If your employer does not offer insurance, you can buy it as part of the Affordable Healthcare Act (Obamacare).

The amount that your insurance will cover versus what you will have to cover varies by the plan you purchased.

My employer sponsored plan costs me about $37 every two weeks. Then for each year, I pay the first $1200 in medical costs. After $1200, I pay 20% of my costs until I have paid $2,400 (not including the $37 every two weeks). After I have reach the $2,400 limit, I don't pay anything else for the rest of the year except for the $37 plan payments.

In short, I pay $37x26 + $2,400 or $3,362 every year towards my healthcare, including my meds.    I am not taxed on the $2,400 either.
