Switch from Truvada+Tivicay to Odefsey? And Insurance?
« on: November 23, 2016, 02:04:44 pm »
I moved to the U.S. last year and I am about to finish my supply of Truvada and Tivicay. I have been perfectly healthy since about 2 years on these meds. Although, I have been having some anxiety issues, perhaps due to meds, or the fact that I keep having a though life? I could use any suggestion regarding anxiety.

Last week I got my diagnosis in Florida, and currently waiting for my doctor's appointment. Although, I am trying to keep it as a new diagnosis, as I am afraid showing it as a pre-existing condition might be an expensive thing in terms of insurance?

I heard from the case manager that they are mostly prescribing one-pill regimens. I was thinking to continue with Tivicay but change Truvada to Descovy as it is less toxic.

Is there anybody who switched from these meds to Odefsey and happy with it?

Also, what do you think about trying to show it as a new diagnosis vs pre-existing condition? I am not sure whether if I will be disadvantaged or not. And I am also concerned about being labelled as positive by insurance companies. I would hate to see that I have to pay even more to insurances, or even worse, being labelled and losing my chance of getting federal jobs due to my diagnosis.

Why do you think you would lose federal jobs due to being HIV positive? I thought the USA had legislation about disability discrimination.

Check out the existing threads about anxiety in the mental health forum there are a lot of good suggestions there.

If you want to know about insurance check out the threads in the insurance forum.

Insurance companies can't deny you insurance for pre existing conditions anymore. They can't charge you more either (at buying off the Obamacare exchanges).  The only federal job in aware of where Hiv would preclude you from being hired is the US military.
