Hello, my name is Joal and I would like to give some background to this topic. I work at a family practice and urgent care clinic. Each month I like to create posters to bring awareness to certain diseases. December is of cause Aids/Hiv. As a gay man I feel Aids/Hiv awareness is extremely important. So, this is were yall come in. My idea is to have Aids/Hiv newspaper clippings as my background and in the forefront in bold, quotes from real people affected by this disease. I want to create something honest, real, inspiring, and eye opening. I would definitely appreciate yalls thoughts and person quotes, Thanks!!

I dont think that quote to your ex is very appealing............... in a sense its kind of hurtful....

We get this approach quite a bit on posters and informational leaflets for illnesses and health awareness.
This month it only caught my eye as the word at the top in bold caps read "ORAL" and below it turned out to be sad sob story and information on some month cancer stuff, you can imagine how disappointed i was and it did not make me any wiser about the topic.

Anyhow i do wish you the best with creating and coming up with idea's for your poster.

Is your focus BTW just HIV general awareness ? Or is it reducing HIV Stigma ?
It's in a doc office setting so does the campaign have any goal behind it that you are trying to drive?
(Increased testing / Safer sex / Transmission awareness)

i'd love to think you have the best of intentions... but Jim is right, we get this a lot... so often in fact, there is even a policy that anyone here for research purposes has to get moderator approval for their project

doesn't seem you did that, also doesn't seem like you're HIV+... you should really reach out to the moderators before you proceed further

we're not a case study, and some of us really don't like being in a fishbowl

so get your approval, and give us a little more idea how you plan to use our stories... some of us will probably step up

Im thinking that the I was a typo and he meant it instead. Welcome to the forum Jarm.

I saw this post the other day and thought about moving it, got around to today .... if he lost a partner to HIV he is welcome to talk about it here in the Someone I care about Forum .

My apologies that was horrible typo. "it would be the death of him." so embarrassed that must have came off as completely insensitive.  My ex was my Knight and shining armour.  And when he told me he had Hiv I didn't think even for a moment that this disease would kill him. Because to me he was invincible. Year later he was dead and that fucking sucks!!! No disrespect to those who got offended, typo.

Thanks for your quote. My intentions are simple, I'm just a guy who wants to make a poster to hang on a frig. It's nothing fancy not making thousands of dollars for research and a cure. Its just made in hopes that someone will catch a glance and read something that gets them thinking about their own health. Maybe some inspiration for those in pain, scared, and alone. I just feel that words from real people affected would change and touch more lives.

jarm, i doubt anyone here took real offense to anything in your post... we are fairly thick skinned

the loss of death is painful for those left behind, our family here has just experienced a huge loss and are struggling right now

my heart goes out to you for the loss of your partner
