Title: My Prezista
Post by: mikeyb39 on January 19, 2013, 09:14:47 am
I got my prescriptions refilled yesterday and they give me the 800 mg pezista instead of the 2x 400mg/day.   I think that is cool, so now only have to take one.

Just an interesting surprise.  i didnt ask for it maybe its becoming the coming way to prescribe it.

I got the once daily dose on a trial basis for 2 years. I think it's standard from now on, even only 600mg with some meds.

The rules are thus (http://www.aidsmeds.com/archive/Prezista_1562.shtml), and I guess if it was me I would double check to make sure that there was no mistake.

There are two approved adult doses for Prezista:

Once-Daily Dose: One 800 mg Prezista tablet (or two 400 mg Prezista tablets) plus one 100 mg Norvir tablet once a day for people who have never taken antiretroviral drugs and for treatment experienced individuals who do not carry any Prezista resistance HIV mutations.

Twice-Daily Dose: One 600 mg Prezista tablet plus one 100 mg Norvir tablet twice a day for treatment experienced individuals who carry one or more Prezista resistance HIV mutations.

Miss P is absolutely right. It is not recommended for everybody. Always ask Your Dr.
I was treatment naive and had no mutations for PI. And a tight control is needed.

It's not a change.  The 800mg tablet was just approved recently.  Prior to that the 800mg was prescribed as two 400mg tablets.   Now that the 800mg tablet is approved they will just dispense one tablet.

The 400mg tablet is being discontinued.

WRONG

approved a new 800mg tablet of PREZISTAŽ (darunavir) for once daily oral administration for the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) in treatment-naive and treatment-experienced adult patients with no darunavir resistance-associated mutations.
PR Newswire (http://s.tt/1sP1S)

So what about patients with darunavir resistance-associated mutations? What happens to them? I take two Prezista 600mg twice daily, not 400mg -- because I am resistant to the entire class of protease inhibitors. They may be discontinuing the 400mg tablets, but they are not discontinuing the 600mg tablets.

You know, you have a habit of jumping the gun with things which is reallly odd for someone with a degree in law. It's like you don't read everything, you just cherry pick items to suit yourself. Read the link again that I provided from the treatment section of this forum, as it's applicable.

I never said anything about the 600mg tablets.  Clearly I was speaking of people who take the two 400 mg tablets (such as mikey) will now take one 800mg tablet as the 400 are being discontinued.
