Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Oral sex, tongue cut/irritation and black hairy tongue

Hi everyone,

I would like to thank you first for any kind of help you can offer me.

A few days ago (6) I  performed oral sex for like a minute on a guy of whom I don't know his status, I didn't taste or saw any precum, but there might have been some.
I had what it looked to me a small cut on my tongue and a little irritation on the front. But analyzing it later it kind of looked as a syphillis canker, although I'm not completely sure about this and lately doesn't really look that much like it now (I'm guessing it would be really obvious if it were). But today, my tongue has developed what it looks like a black hairy tongue, mine looks yellowish, I brush my teeth everyday and I don't smoke, so I don't really think those might be the causes.

In the last past months after my last HIV/STD test in November, all my sexual relationships have been oral, so I haven't had any anal sex which I know it would be where the situation could be more risky. But just thinking that I may had some sort of previous sexual infection (like syphillis) that I got from a previous guy or maybe some other bacteria like the one that causes black hairy tongue in my mouth, worries me that it made it easier for the HIV virus to enter that way.

I have read many of your previous post, and I really know that I should only be really worried if I had unprotected anal or vaginal sex. This is not my case. But just really want to know your opinion on my specific experience and if I really should be worried.

Oral sex is not a risk for infection, no matter how you phrase it.  The coating on your tongue could be from many causes and if it concerns you, please see your doctor.

You did not have a risk.

Hi everyone!

After my previous post I went to a clinic and got tested for HIV and other STDs and all my results came negative, but in the last few weeks I've been engaged in oral sex with different partners; I noticed some precum sometimes but none ever came in my mouth, and I've always used condoms for anal sex so that's not my concern. My concern still comes from oral sex. I don't have bad oral hygiene, but two of my wisdom teeth have cavities in them so I would like to know if this would increase any risk. Also, since my last encounter in the past week I have gotten a sore throat, my lymph nodes are swollen and I've gotten different canker sores on the sides of my tongue. I'm not saying that those symptoms come from being infected with HIV, I know you can never know with symptoms; I'm just wondering if I may have had a previous infection in my throat and might have increased the risk of contracting the virus. The symptoms appeared a couple days after my last encounter and I haven't been with anyone else since.

Nothing you describe is a risk for HIV infection.  It does not matter if you have cavities or not, as that is not how HIV is transmitted.  You have also been tested for HIV and other STDs recently and all the results were negative.

If you are concerned about any symptoms you are experiencing, please consult with your doctor as they have nothing to do with HIV.

Hi,

I went to the doctor and got sorted the problem with my throat, it was a common infection and it went away after a couple days.

But tonight I was with a guy and while I gave him oral I hit my nose that is always been very sensitive and it started to bleed and it took a little until I realized I was bleeding. I'm really scared now about it, I know the wound was in my nose, I can even see now in the mirror that the blood comes from the tip of my nose, but I'm sure I got some blood in my mouth and I'm not sure if the virus could have travel and get into the blood stream this way. The oral sex didn't last too long, I stopped immediately when I realized I was bleeding, but I'm still afraid it could've travel this way or made it easier to access my body. Should I rush into a clinic soon? Please let me know!

Its not a risk and you do not need to test over a bloody nose while giving head .
