Title: Ryder Cup at The K Club in Dublin
Post by: Val on September 24, 2006, 10:53:47 am
I thought I was gonna die for screaming so much!  Anyway, it is over and Europe has won, once again, The Ryder Cup!  It is the third time in a row that Europe beats the U.S.A.

Its 5 out of 6 for Euros. They are just better and three people cost US any chance. Tiger,Furyk and Left were absolutely horrible.
Another interesting statistic is that out the last few ryders 28 matches went to the 18th hole. Europe has won 27 of them. That means US players are choking dogs, plain and simple.
In short other than the greaseball from Spain, the Euros are total class and just plain better than US at two man team games.
The reception that Darren Clarke got on his last hole today had me bawling.
Dan Jenkins, the famous sports writer and author put it best, until the Euros start making the kind of money the US players are,we dont have chance unless we send players from the mini tours.
Another thing that hurts the US is many of the US players are better Friends with Euro players than their US team mates and its very hard to hate good friends and you have to hate the person you are playing in match play. You have to want to rip his heart out and eat it.

You're right regarding the money that Americans make even though many Europeans  are on a par with their American  fellow players on that account! Take Montgomerie, for example! He's very rich and still has that strong passion for the game. Also, the Europeans have a great capitain: Woosnan! This guy is just an awesome player and an incredible captain!

I always thought Monty got a bad rap,  even though he has won the "order of Merit" seven or eight times and is a great Ryder Cup player, he has never won a tourney in US. He had legit chance to win Open at Oakmont but took the gas and most recently puked all over himself on the way to blowing this years US Open at Medinah.
I just can't figure out why the Americans play so poorly in the two man team formats. I have played in many tourneys and have always played better as an individual than as part of a team. There is a different kind of pressure in two man team golf, you feel pressure not to let your partner or team down, which is different from the pressure to do it on your own. Its why I love golf, there is only yourself to blame when you lose. Maybe there is something to the theory that the Euros are closer because many of the places where they play may only have one or two hotels and they are forced to spend a lot of time with each other.
I really wish Lee Westwood would fix his teeth.
My favorite was always Faldo who is now the best and wittiest commentor on the game.
