Title: Way to go Europe!
Post by: Miss Philicia on May 06, 2012, 06:52:15 pm
For the first time in 67 years there will be Nazi party representation in a European legislature -- the Greek far right Golden Dawn party (they even do the Hitler salute!) just won 6-8% of the vote, qualifying them for 19 seats in parliament.

The rise in the popularity of the far right seems to be infecting politics across parts of EU. The case in France is just as sinister. Marine Le Pen, leader of the National Front, came third in the first round of the presidential elections with 17.9 per cent of the vote.

Indeed. And I distinctly recall three years ago during the Swiss minaret controversy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minaret_controversy_in_Switzerland) predicting a further rise in Euro-craziness far right activity and being told by several Euro residents on this board that I was hand wringing.

Anders Behring Breivik, anyone?

Geert Wilders makes John Boehner look like a kindly gentleman.
