Title: Okay, Need Help - Planning Council
Post by: kcmetroman on July 25, 2006, 11:17:09 pm
Trish and I are on a committee (4 total)  to re-brand the Planning Council here in Kansas City.  I mean all the way from logo to mission statement.  I have the logo ideas laid out but need help on the tag line.
We are focusing on multi-racial, multi faceted community for new PC members (consumers), and I really want to get away from the standard mold (meeting some resistance though).

An example:
"One Community, One Goal"

You get the drift.  Just thought you might like to throw a few ideas at me.

Thanks....

Hello Kc it is Eldon. What's the mission statement?

Hey Eldon (I knew it was you)

The current Mission Statement is:
To Develop and coordinate an effective and comprehensive community-wide response in the Kansas City EMA to HIV/AIDS.

A mouthful for sure, and we are looking to streamline it as well stroke the appeal.

Hi John,

We are having to develop a Mission Statement for Community Re-Connect.  I received the first rough draft yesterday, it was written by our HIV Services Manager.  I added a change because the Re-Connect Task Force was never really provided by or supported by the Planning Counsil.  My suggestion was "Community Re-Connect, a Task Force formed by people living with HIV/AIDS for people living with HIV/AIDS."

I like our HIV Services Manager but she is staff and only lives HIV for 40 hours per week.  The people who actually formed this Task Force... would be those of us who actually have HIV/AIDS and can not clock out on Friday afternoon.  Have the best day
Michael

I applaud KC, Trish and Sonoma Beach for getting involved in their respective communities. The more HIV+ people that get involved CAN ONLY BE A GOOD THING for their communities. I may be brave or I may be nuts...but I'm meeting Moffie on Friday to get "my feet wet" and take that next step. If I live (lol) I'll let you all know how it went.
Kcmetroman, would it be possible to possible work in the word "TRUTH" somehow....Or "THE NEW TRUTH ABOUT HIV/AIDS...Just some food for thoughts maybe. good luck. And Thanks for taking the time with your efforts, which will help everyone with HIV/AIDS.

Jeff,

I think the word "truth" can be used in our CPG (Community Prevention Group) campaigns, but may not be appropriate for a mission statement.

Hey Metro!  YOU GO MAN!  Glad to see we have a powerhouse team here in KC.  I'll rack my warped brain today to see what it rattling around in there!

I commend you both for your effort, bravery and dedication to those of us in this little club!

Andrew

Hi John, Hi Trish,

I received a series of email this morning that has put me in a bad mood.  As a founding member of the Re-Entry Task Force, I have spent the past few months battling the Planning Counsil (of which I am a voting member) on getting this program started.  I am the press contact, the "spokes model" and have been fully involved from the beginning.

The Planning Counsil tried to deny any outside funding, even though the RWCA funds could not cover any costs in this economy.  They buried it in linguistics for 3 months with a deadline to make it a non-funded service category.  They played with the concepts, changed the name a few times but never made a decision on non-funding?

Sonoma State University and a disabled Professor continued to work on this project.  A grant is being applied for and it is huge.  All of a sudden, the Planning Counsil, the ASO's, the AIDS Food Bank and the health care organizations are jumping on the band-wagon.  They want the $648,000.00 (5 year grant) to add to their continum of services.

Providing jobs and/or training to persons living with HIV/AIDS have become second to a Support Group managed by those who are already employed.  I worked 10 months to provide job security for those already working?  Planning Counsil and all conected entities have no idea on how to provide anything other than the way it has always been done.  This brings to mind what we in private industry used to refer to as "The Good Ole Boys Club."  However these Good Ole Boys drink from the same public well as those of us on public assistance.  THE difference is, they take much bigger drinks.

I have a new plan that is Michael oriented, the "what's in it for me?" version.  It kind of goes with "God Bless the Child who got his own."  This will be discussed in another post.  Have the best day
Michael
