Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

Worried after oral

I know...ANOTHER post about oral.
I'm freaking out so I want to share my story too.
I had unprotected oral sex two weeks ago. I gave a guy a blowjob and he ejaculated into my mouth twice. I swallowed the semen both times.
Five days later I believe I developed oral thrush which made me extremely nervous and I've had other symptoms since which I believe to be anxiety-induced but are consistent with ARS symptoms.

My question is, am I at risk for HIV because of the oral sex? I don't believe I had any open sores in my mouth but my gums do bleed when I brush my teeth (I hadn't brushed for about 12 hours before the encounter but I did brush immediately afterward).

Is it possible to begin showing symptoms five days after exposure?

Should I get tested?

Providing unprotected oral sex on a male poses a theoretical risk for HIV-infection only if your have gaping wounds in your mouth (as in "meth mouth," not gums that may be sore from a toothbrush).

However, giving (or receiving) unprotected oral sex can put one at risk for other STD's/STI's.

Additionally, acute HIV-infection would not cause such a rapid drop in T-cells that oral thrush would develop in five days.

See a healthcare professional for diagnosis of your oral thrush symptoms and appropriate treatment.
