Resolutions....
« on: January 01, 2007, 01:59:18 am »
Well, here we are.   I'm only an hour and a half, yet from the New Year.

I'm sitting watching Bridezillas on the tele, eating some of the last california rolls I made on Friday, drinking a glass of red wine, and considering the new year.

Let's see...   where did I go wrong with the old year?  hrm.  Well... there were the people I alienated - both intentional and un.  There were the extra-curricular, non-prescribed medications...  and, oh yeah, the men that I crushed in my sad-but honest attempt at discovering myself and losing the haze around my life.

So... what to do for the new year...   I was reading a book on becoming adventuresome and I've decided to set forth, today, a list of ten things I'd like to do this year.  Some may be a bit more ambitious than others, but I think I DO need to start setting goals, and getting my shit together...  so... on to the 10 things I hope to accomplish before 2008:

1.  I want to wade in some warm tropical waters, wearing white linen pants, with a big straw hat, and a galvanized tin pail to collect specimens of interest.
2.  I want to make curtains for my bedroom out of the material that's been hiding in my closet for the past five months.
3.  I want to be bigger and buffer than I already am, and to develop the physical build of the person I have taped onto the inner side of my journal.
4.  I want to write more in my journal, and to live more in the moment - and write in the present tense, so the people who read my journals after I'm gone can enjoy my experiences as I do.
5.  I want to be more involved in my neice and nephew's lives - and visit my sister's grave.
6.  I want to ride at least 15 rollercoasters before year's end.
7.  I want to either parachute or bungee jump to face my fear of heights.
8.  I want to do more things that make me uncomfortable, so that I may grow more.
9.  I want to visit New York and sing at the Monster once again.
10.  I want to learn to love again, and to give myself permission to be loved.

These are my resolutions.

None of those are insurmountable, even the last one.

I have those linen pants!! Tags still on. If you promise you won't wear anything underneath when you go, I promise I won't when I go!

When you get to NYC, make sure I know. I'd love to lean against the wall at the Monster and watch you sing.

Happy New Year Joseph, may all your dreams come true.

they're not very specific. Well, I would like my bedroom finished, so I can stop sleeping around ( the house, that is!)

I think all I want is to be utterly content. (not too much, right?) I have the material things. It's the truly valuable that I'm missing.

  Joseph,

Sounds like you have some great resolutions to work on there!  I especially like the one of writing in your journal in the present tense.

Here are my resolutions for the New Year:

    1. Quit smoking
    2. Have a hammock in the backyard
    3. Go to all of my 4 yr old's dance recitals
    4. Have my legal issues cleared up and behind me
    5. Be able to jog three miles with my girlfriend (she already can)
    6. Get out and fish more now that I live by so many lakes
    7. Work on my anger issues
    8. To add 40 lbs.  (already added 12 lbs. since November 15)
    9. Go to church more often
10.Visit my mother's grave in Tennessee

I despise the song Love is in the Air, you should too.

If there isn't a website, perhaps we will need to get across to readers what the Monster is.  West Village, heart of Christopher Street, picture windows all around, lot's of flower arrangements and mirrors, a dance club downstairs, a pianist and guys (primarily) singing upstairs, a relatively low cover charge, I wasn't there enough to comment on the bartenders.  :)

I have diddled over my new years resolution(s) from problems with phrasing.  I think the pattern which I wish to curb/derail is to overcome problems/limitations by change, i.e. with NYC offering high rise, low rise, doormen, non-doormen, large, small, West, East, North, South buildings, it always seemed to make sense to move (change) rather than rethink/remodel the existing situation.  If the job doesn't work, get a new one.  If the boyfriend doesn't measure up, get a new one.  Reinvent myself over and over and over.  Hence the move to the Cape: when New York gets to be a problem, move out of it.

So, if this is getting across somewhat vaguely, the resolution is to keep the existing models and work with them as opposed to dumping them.  Win
Winthrop Smith has published three collections of poetry: Ghetto: From The First Five; The Weigh-In: Collected Poems; Skin Check: New York Poems.  The last was published in December 2006.  He has a work-in-progress underway titled Starting Positions.

Hmm, sounds like you got it together, Joseph. I wish I could do the same. Since living on a limited income, I can't do the things I really would like to do. But for 2007 I will try, try being the key word here, mind you.

1. To get my car detailed which is kinda hard for me since the car is an 85 Chevy Caprice Classic.
2. Take a trip this summer, just to be in a new surrounding.
3. Furnish my humble home more, still looks like I just moved in..
4. Update my clothes, hell I haven't gone shopping in ages.

1. To write a 1,000 words a day. Any kind of writing. And it doesn't have to be deathless prose either. Just need to get into a routine.

2. Continue my gym routine. Get super-fit for the summer.  ::)

3. Be in better touch with old friends.

4. Be less of a slob. (Yes, there are gay slobs.)

5. Attend the AMG event in August/September.

I used to go the Monster all the time in the mid-90's but generally it was to scoop up wayward hung Dominican boys on Sunday in the basement disco and not the Liza Minelli gents crooning upstairs by the drag queen playing the piano.

Let's just say I was so well known there that all the bartenders knew my drink order without me saying anything.

Me too! :)  And Sasha at the door always let me in for free. :)  Oh, and he'd kick ass for me when I was stirring shit. :)  I miss sasha.

I used to love dancing downstairs, and then coming up and singing, and then going back downstairs, and then coming up and singing.... LOL  I miss the Monster.

Chiming in: I sort of miss the Monster too. Went there now and again, as a wee lad, mid- to late-90s (and also its Boston counterpart, the Napoleon Club). But maybe there should be another thread for this, Memories of the Monster or something.
