YAY, the winter solstice has passed

Yesterday was the shortest day of the year... Yippey, bring on the longer days, more sunshine and soon - less clothing.

It's been a dreary few weeks with 5 inches of rain and generally grey, miserable days. I think I've been suffering from SAD. but, not today, the sun is out and the weather feels surprisingly spring like at 19 C (around 70 farenheit). I know that is a false start as the worst of winter is yet to hit, but it makes a pleasant change from 15 and rain.

YAY to sunshine.

I had to remind myself that you're on the other side of the world when I read your post, Steve.  Yesterday was the longest day for us.

A2Z, I talked to my sister in Phoenix Saturday and she said that it's one of the coolest Junes on record there.

Yesterday the heat index , down here in Florida was about 105 degrees !! Saturday was just as bad. Summers is officially here now. and the AC is kicking on more often now. I think I left my fingerprints on the steering wheel of the car yesterday. HOT, HOT, Hot !!

Besides all of the rain we have had lately, the temperatures have really been holding out in the Philly area.  It hasn't even reached 90F yet, which is amazing.  I'm not usually a fan of the summer heat, but I like this so far.

Yes, one of the rainiest springs ever here in the northeast, New York getting rain every other day, very little sun...I like rain now and then but it has been alot, oh well we'll take whatever we get, its good to be able to have good health and walk around in any weather !!!  And at least our reservoirs should be filled for the summer !!!

Austin and most of Texas is still in a perpetual drought; it's 100+ here everyday and the humidity makes it worse; and the weather generally SUCKS ASS in Central Texas!

However, I just got an extra car thanks to my late Aunt Kathy and the A/C is even better than the one in the Brown Pearl !  YAY!

It's been unbearable the last few days here in S. Florida. I spend a lot of time on my back porch, so I ran misters along the top of the screened in enclosure. The mist was evaporating as fast as it was coming out.

Those misters are pretty cool, and they do their job, most of the time !! A lot of the restaurants in this area ( and along the beaches) have them installed outside, to help keep one cool before entering the restaurant !

I've never heard of these before or seen them in action but wouldn't they simply add to the humidity and therefore the uncomfortable sticky feeling?

ps. what i'd give to be hot and sticky at the moment. i'm such a wimp when it comes to cold weather - it was probably 50 farenheit this morning but my feet feel like there about to freeze off  problem is our 'winter' is so brief that we are totally unprepared for it - like most in Sydney, i have no central heating (or air con for that matter) and very few appropriate clothes in my wardrobe. I remember meeting up with Tim Horn when he was in Sydney - i had layers of clothing on and was literally shaking I was so cold, but I believe Tim thought it was quite a pleasant day. I'll never be visiting the north east or inland US during winter. I don't do snow and or freezing temps at all well.

I also never heard of them before, until I moved to Florida.  But they do work. I guess it works throught the evaporative process. This very fine mist lands on you, or cools the surrounding air, evaporates, and cools you down.

15 gallons an hour? Can't say mine uses that much water.

They actually do work. The mist actually evaporates before it hits the ground. However, it does tend to cool the surrounding area, (in my case, my patio) a good 5 degrees. Maybe up to 10 degrees if I have both ceiling fans running.

that's why I've never bought one.  (also,they look a little too complicated for me).  They sure are nice, though,  it's going to be 102' F (39'C) here tomorrow.  I'll make sure all my work is done by noon and then look for some shade.

Remember, that depends on how many nozzles your using .  One nozzle uses 1 gallon of water per hour. But I guess if there are water restrictions in place, these might not be able to be used.

I've always hated the heat (yeah, kinda made life difficult being in Texas)!  While it's only been 6 or 7 years since I moved from Texas, I'm already completely converted to cooler climates.  I was complaining to my cousin that London has been hot this week.

My cousin actually looked up the temperature (24C, 75-77F) and was not impressed!  I hadn't realised that temps in Texas were topping 100.  While I was whinging on and on to her about how hot it was.  But to be fair, I don't have ac and I have to travel by subway (also no ac).  While she is in constant ac environment from home to car to work.

Hubby and I are originally from south Louisiana (Hubby by way of Honduras).  We've been in the mountains for nearly 11yrs and I can't take the heat now.  Today was miserable - 85F. Temps in New Orleans were topping 95F with heat indexes well over 100F.  I would melt!  I'm ready for autumn and cooler temps.

I imagine Ann as having a real doozy of an accent. Must admit i love a good Manci accent but not sure what accent they have on the rock - would it be more Liverpuddlian and Manci? And what part of the US was she from.

We're so dull, other than the odd different word usage we all sound pretty much the same. The differences are so subtle that no outsider would ever pick up on it.
