Fellow forum followers,

In my day job I work with people with HIV on a range of issues.  For some time we have been supporting a woman of foreign nationality who found out she had HIV during her immigration health screening process.  Her application was turned down on many occasions - leaving her thinking that she would have to leave her husband and Australian born baby to return to her war torn country.

We finally have gotten her near residency but she had to leave Australia and return before the final stamp of approval could be given - for some beaurocratic bullshit reason.  This lady could not return to her country of origin for this exercise for safety reasons so was at a loss.

This woman is currently enjoying a stay in beautiful New Zealand with a network of positive women who are making her very welcome.  On her return she will have full residency and health entitlements ( in Australia HIV care and medication is provided by the government for all - regardless of insurance etc ).

This has all been made possible through the kind and generous assistance of our friend Jan.

Dear Jan,

You have helped this woman, her child and her whole family more than you will ever know.  You will be in her and our hearts forever.  I hope you don't mind me posting this public thank you - I think our friends would like to know.

This doesn't surprise me at all.  I've always known Jan has a huge heart.  When I first joined the forums, she called me a couple times, to make me feel welcome I suppose.  That really touched me, and I've loved her ever since.

Thank you, and the others for your kind words, I had a conversation with them last night and our young lady was celebrating her birthday eating cake and enjoying herself... :D

Positive Women Inc of NZ are part of the Asian/Pacific Network so as well as helping our own Women we get to help others outside NZ as also, it's a wonderful Organisation and I'm proud to be a Board member and we are over the moon about the wonderful news our young lady and family have recieved.

Our lady is back in Oz and thanks to Jan's generosity, connections and organisation skills our friend is now a fully fledged Australian.

Hi TB

I was so pleased to hear our lady got her residence, now she doesn't have to worry about being returned to a country in turmoil or leave her family behind again.

Who knows maybe she will bring he family to see NZ now shehas experienced our beautiful scenery.

Thank you for the "Mother's Day" wishes..I can only assume the animals have something for me and have it hidden in the fields somewhere because I've searched the house and haven't found anything ... ;) ;D.

What I missed this?...I can only chime in that Jan is indeed a truly lovely person who always puts others first, the two and four legged kind....She is our angel here and in NZ as well.
