Hello, I'm a 16 year old gay male and I recently had an experience with a friend of mine who may or may not have been with a girl or two in my school... He insists he's negative, but I don't think he's actually been tested. I was giving him oral, and after about 30 seconds I tasted what I think MIGHT have been precum... It was a very, very small amount. Almost right after that we had to stop in fear of getting caught. After kinda swallowing (just getting the back of my throat cleared up, but the rest of the saliva and stuff in, I spit almost all of it out... Here's what I'm wondering...
How likely is it that a 16 year old boy would be HIV+, and what're the odds that he could transmit it to me through precum ONLY? I don't think I had any cuts or sores in my mouth at the time... I've been worrying myself sick over this and I don't think I should be, but I'd love an answer of some kind... THANK YOU. :/

Even if the guy was HIV positive and had a soaring viral load, there was no risk in the activities you described.
PLEASE read our LESSONS on HIV transmission and educate yourself about HIV and how to avoid it.
Spoiler: Wear a condom for penetrative anal and/or vaginal sex. Don't share IV drug needles. And thats

Also, you need to know that the only confirmed risks for the sexual transmission of HIV are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse.
As long as condoms are always used for those activities you will be well protected. No exceptions.

I thought it was possible to transmit it through open sores or cuts in the mouth...
Am I wrong? Isn't it as long as it gets into the bloodstream?
Meh... I feel like I'm fine...

Yes, we have noted all of the details. And no, you were not at risk. Your saliva contains over a dozen elements and proteins which effectively prevent the transmission of viable HIV. Get on with your life.

Fortunately doubts and fears are not facts. And in terms of HIV science, the facts of your situation are that you were not at risk and there is no need for HIV testing. Get on with your life.

I realise you're only sixteen and you are probably not yet all that sexually active. However, this is what they call a "teachable moment" and for that reason, I'm going to give you some information that you need to remember as you grow older and become more sexually active.
Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:
You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.
To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.
Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.
ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER THIS 30 SECOND NO RISK BLOWJOB, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.
If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.
Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.
Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!

Sorry to pester again, but this question has kinda been nagging me.
Let's say there was a sore or a blister in my mouth at the time...
(I don't think there was but two days later there was something that looked like it had scabbed over at that point on the inside of my left cheek, which makes me think something could've been there at the time.)
Even if this was a sore or blister, I would be fine? I understand saliva protects against HIV, but what if the precum got to the sore before my saliva, if the sore even existed?
I know I'm kinda kinda far fetched at this point, but I think once this question is answered (if it's good news) then I'll finally be able to relax. Thank you all. :/

So the saliva would kill off any of the virus before it reached any cuts or sores in my mouth, basically?
And if I do decide to test, (mostly for piece of mind) do I have to wait 3 months for a reliable answer?

Hello everyone... I know my time-out just expired and I guess I needed and deserved it. :P But I just would like to update everyone quick.
It's been about 5 weeks since my incident, and I hadn't noticed any symptoms until about 4 and a half weeks, where I noticed one very large swollen lymph node in my neck and a bunch of little ones in my groin (little in the sense that I feel them more than I've ever noticed before.)
Otherwise I've had no symptoms.
However, the swollen nodes are persistent, and grow and shrink throughout the day.
Should I be concerned about them since they came in AFTER 4 weeks? Don't most symptoms come in 2-4 weeks?
Also I am planning on getting tested at 6 weeks and 3 days. Will this give me an accurate response?

You can test anytime you want to because you didn't have a risk. All you are doing it for is your peace of mind and a negative result is inevitable.
Leave your lymph nodes alone. By squeezing or feeling them you can create a real problem where there isn't one. If they are uncomfortable discuss them with your doctor.
I'm also going to warn you that we are not going to embark on another round of what ifs and symptoms with you. You did not have a risk for HIV. Period. If you continue to return here over this non-risk incident you are very quickly going to find yourself getting another Time Out. And this time it will be for 56 days.
HIV is not your problem no matter what your head and your fears are saying otherwise.

Hey guys, great news. And I know I should've expected it.
Results on my rapid test just came back negative.
I just wanna thank you guys for putting up with me, I couldn't have made it the 6 weeks without the support of you guys and other forums.

You're right - that negative result is absolutely no surprise.
Protect your hiv negative virus by always using condoms. Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
