Leave it soak overnight (or for a few hours) in a runny paste of comet, dish detergent and hot water. Rinse in very hot water and add more comet and some elbow grease and scrub til clean.

Alternatively, you could cover it in water and put on a medium heat and let it come to a boil for a few minutes, then attack it with the comet and elbow grease and more hot water.

Next time, turn the heat down! :D

Once oil burns, or cooks onto a surface its no longer Oil, and cant be disolved by anything other than a strong solvent like Oven Cleaner, however Oven cleaner will probablly ruin the finish.
Comet is the right Idea, but it may be a little too abrasive,,,   theres a powdered cleanser called ' Bar keepers Friend"
( Hey I thought That was me.. )  thats perfect for shiny metal cookware, in fact it what alot of the manufacturers reccomend.. dont worry it WONT dull the shine any  its a very fine abrasive...   just make a paste with it and use some elbow grease...  another similar product is Soft Scrub  , an abrasive cleaner thats already mixed into a paste..
In any event youll need to polish your nice new pan from time to time to keep it looking new... I have a set of Stainless Cookware and every now and again its time for a polishin'...  Its just the small price you pay for the Dazzling Professonal Cookware....

Bon Apetitī

P.S.  Scouring Pads like SOS, will work but scratch up the finish...

WD40 and then make sure you clean it well afterwards. Remember don't subsitute WD-40 for PAM non-sticking spray.  ;)

Alex,

All of the suggestions are good ones. Soak your pan overnight in soap and warm water. On the following day, grab some S.O.S. pads w/lemon and put some elbow grease into it to clean your pan.

Better yet, I'll avoid the kitchen entirely  :-[

Switch to a cast iron pan. You'll never have to worry about burnt oil, ruining that shinny finish or washing the pan with soap again.

Plus a cast iron pan is good for keeping a misbehaving mate in check.

Shame, shame for burning a new pan.  Where you trying to season it?  Anyway, filling it with hot water with lots of liquid dish soap and a dryer sheet (fabric softener), letting it sit overnight then using a copper scrubber i.e. chore boy and you will have your pot nice and shiny again.  From then on, don't turn the heat up that high!  The better quality the pan is, the less heat is needed as good pans distribute heat more evenly.  Ours have copper bottoms and are heavy quality stainless steel from Macy's.  It's their brand, called Belgique and even if YOU ruin one, they will ALWAYS give you a replacement free of charge.  We got a 14 piece set  on sale last month for $165 for a set that's normally $500.  We'll never have to buy new pots again. . . and that's a good thing.

Step 1: measure 8 ounces of wine. A nice white Merlot will do.

Step 2: Drink the wine.

Step 3: Put the skillet in the sink. Run hot water in it.

Step 4: Pour another glass of wine.

Step 5: Stare wistfully at the skillet in the sink while sipping the wine.

Step 6: Shake the skillet gently so the hot water jiggles but doesn't spill.

Step 7: Pour another glass of wine. Drink it while contemplating the need to cut down on fried food.

Step 8: Pour the water from the skillet. Test the burned-on oil to see if it has loosned. If it hasn't, repeat steps 1 through 7.

Throw the pan away.

Open another bottle of wine and decide to replace with a durable cast iron skillet.

HUGS,

Mark

Ok, since you guys are so knowlegeable on oil, how do you get caked up grease off of a stove and wall? I have tried some stuff called Mean Green but it only takes a lil bit off. A friend mentioned oven cleaner but I thought that may ruin the finish on the stove.

Queen Akasha - For the stove I would use a paste paint remover called Peel Away 6 - let it set and remove with paper towels moistened with Goo Gone ... Ironically you should not use Peel Away 6 on your wall or else it WILL remove the paint and that's not what you're trying to do. I say ironic because its purpose is to remove paint from walls

My number one suggestion would be to dump the shinny stuff and go to cast iron (as mentioned above).  Otherwise, there is a scrubbing powder out there called "Bon Ami".  At least there was when I was a kid, but it basically doesn't scratch but cleans like Comet.
