Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

What is your opinion please...

I am a healthy, married male.  I have not had any prior unsafe sexual encounters.  Last Monday (3/23/09) I was in Miami and ended up having a brief encounter with another married male.  We mutually masturbated each other and then I gave the guy oral for about a minute.  We continued to mutually j/o and a little later I licked the shaft and head of his cock again.  I tasted a small amount of pre-cum on the tip of my tongue and then licked the shaft again to get it off, swallowed, and stopped oral.  We both ejaculated on my stomach a short time later.  I had asked the guy if he was STD-free and he, of course, said yes.  Hopefully that is the truth.  Do you think I had a risk?  Just so you know, I have good oral hygiene as well.  No cuts or sores in mouth; my gums don't bleed; lips aren't chapped or bleeding; had not brushed teeth immediately prior to the encounter, etc.  I appreciate your educated opinion...thank you.

I don't see any cause for further concern about HIV in relation to this incident nor for you to get tested.

HIV is a fragile virus and not easily transmitted. The only confirmed means of sexual transmission of the virus are unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse. Everything else is in the domain of theoretically risky but not proven. Additionally your saliva contains over a dozen elements which very effectively prevent the transmission of viable HIV, if it's even present in the other person.

Common sense of course dictates not to give oral if you have open wounds in your mouth or bad oral care. From what you have reported that is not the case for you.

So again I say I don't see any cause for concern about this incident.
