It's made by Abbott laboratories so at least it's not some fly-by-night snakeoil outfit. Well, sorta. ;D

On the main Abbott Juven page it says: Use Juven under medical supervision and I suggest you take their advice and speak to your doctor about this. If he/she agrees it's something you need and would benefit from, you may be able to get it cheaper on prescription.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Juven is an excellent example of marketing heavily marked-up chemical components and not disclosing all of the pertinent risks.

Juven's main constituents are arginine, glutamine, and HMB (beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate), a new fad piss colorant for bodybuilders  see http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/hmb.html

Glutamine has long been recognized for contributing to muscle growth and immune function, but it's available in bulk form far cheaper than the individual servings provided by Juven.  I just ordered 2000g of bul gluatime from an eBay merchant in Brooklyn for under $50  with shipping.  Using 10g a day, that's under 25 CENTS a day.  Still, anyone on Dilantin for seizures and a couple other drugs I can't recall must avoid glutamine.

Arginine is often touted for alertness, but again it's available in bulk forms far cheaper.  Arginine also contributes to flare-ups of herpes.
