have questions need answers cant find them..
« on: July 06, 2013, 01:35:04 pm »
Approximately 2 months ago I tested positive on Elisa & indeterminate western blot..I was about 35 weeks pregnant. I have been with husband almost 2 years... I previously tested negative in November so pretty sure it came from hubby & doctors say I was in seroconversion at the time I tested second time. My first counts were CD 388 %35 vl 2767-which Dr said was quite low since usually in seroconversion vl is high..they started me on meds right away..3 weeks later CD 4 488 %45 vl-undetectable...we also had hubbys counts done his CD 900 not sure of percent & his vl was undetectable (he's never been on meds)

So my question is do we just have a weak strain & that is reason for low viral load? Is it possible he is elite controller...but also strange to me he infected me in previous 3-6:months & he's undetectable? Maybe he wasn't then? Idk..we have not seen an ID Dr yet still trying to get in..

Also I understand what undetectable means but I guess where I am confused is where I see people talking about all these other illnesses they got because of HIV...I mean is it possible to have HIV stay on meds & stay undetectable or am I dreaming? The Dr I did see he is over all infectious disease told me I would live to be an old woman... but I am still extremely terrified for baby (has had one pcr negative) hubby & myself..

Not to mention all the anxiety I have over him telling his past partners & them figuring it out that he is HIV+ that would destroy us ..as his past partners & he have mutual friends & its a very small town

  Hi   Tippytu ,
Glad you found this site , it is a lifesaver for sure !

I am sure you will live to be a wonderful Grandmother  :)

Just because Men are undetectable  does not mean there is not HIV
in the body . Just that  it is low enough not to be seen by today's tests .

I have often wondered about a  Having a weak strain myself .  I have had
HIV   since 1982 and turned AIDS 2004 .   Thankfully I have  not had the
awful symptoms  others have experienced   , Mine are  mostly for the effects
   of the HIV Drugs .

Please do not worry about what may or may not be !    I live in a teany Town , The only issues I have had is from a very bad Caseworker , She has since been fired  ;D

I am sure your little baby will be fine , Doctors work wonders today , I'm not sure  , But I think for the most part they can prevent HIV transmission at birth !

I wish you both the best of life ,   It has only just begun .

                                                            Weasel

P.s.   what have you named you wee one ?

Thank you for your reply..I tried to figure out how to send you a pm...

I didn't think it was common for people to be undetectable without medication?
& why my viral load was so low during seroconversion? We haven't had a chance to see an ID Dr yet, but hopefully soon. We do not have a case manager either.

Also wondering about sex? He's undetectable & so am I. I have looked & looked & can't get a straight answer if we need to use protection or not because of superinfection?

I hope to see my grandchildren. This is the most terrifying situation I have ever been in! Driving myself crazy trying to figure out which of hubbys exes gave it to him...I know it doesn't matter but I can't quit torturing myself with it...even to the point of making myself sick thinking about him with other women...even tho we didn't know each other then...sounds crazy I know just wish I could quit thinking about it!

Hi Tippy, welcome to the forums.

Have you and your husband both been diagnosed with a positive antibody result, confirmed with a positive Western Blot test result?

Unless you have, there's a possibility that you've had false positive results. It doesn't sound like you've been tested by an hiv or infectious disease doctor and if the doctor who tested you doesn't have good knowledge surrounding hiv, it's possible that the proper procedure wasn't followed.

False positives can and do happen, particularly when pregnancy is involved.

Yes we both tested positive on both tests...I wish it was a false positive that's what I believed in the beginning when I first tested indeterminate... we both have viral loads also so yes we are positive... was very devastated at first...I am a little better now but still have my days/moments & panic attacks.

We live in a very very small town in Louisiana... but being referred to a larger town with a better medical facility & ID Dr that have treated more people with HIV
