Welcome to Do I Have HIV?

Welcome to the "Do I Have HIV?" POZ forum.

This special section of the POZ forum is for individuals who have concerns about whether or not they are HIV positive. Individuals are permitted to post up to three questions or responses in this forum.

Ongoing participation in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum (posting more than three questions or responses) requires a paid subscription, with secure payments made via PayPal.

A seven-day subscription is $9.99, a 30-day subscription is $14.99 and a 90-day subscription is $24.99.

Anyone who needs to post more than three messages in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum -- including past, present and future POZ Forums members -- will need to subscribe, with secure payments made via PayPal.

There is no charge to read threads in the "Do I Have HIV?" forum, nor will there be a charge for participating in any of the other POZ forums. In addition, the POZ Basics "HIV Transmission and Risks" and "HIV Testing" basics, will remain accessible to all.

At this point, you should know, after all the time you have spent on this site, what does and does not amount to a risk for hiv.  This has gone on long enough.

Before everyone freaks out at me...please listen to my question...I am very distraught, but not for me this time. Ironically for my brother. He works for a Juvinile (up to 19) prison in the states. He is a drug and alcohol councelor. He broke up a really bad fight this morning where weapons were apparently involved. he had a large amount of blood on him. he is not sure if he had any visible cuts. He was not hurt. He was being taken to the hospital for evaluation...will they put him on PEP? What does he need to know about this? Thank you

Yup. For your "brother".

If what you say is true (and I doubt it) then your brother will be subject the standard operating procedure for dealing with HIV/AIDS exposures of this type. Tell him to ring his Union rep and not waste our time. Alternatively he could read our Welcome Thread.

Unless your "brother" were also cut during this fight, it is highly unlikely he has anything to worry about and I rather doubt that PEP would be deemed necessary. Why don't you just let the hospital take care of it?

And by the way, don't think this is your ticket to come back here with more "quick" questions. If your brother has further concerns, I suggest he talks to a doctor or comes to us himself - and don't bother creating a new account to pose as your "brother", because I will know. Got it?

Wow, thanks for those lines of support. He is actually at the hosital now and he is my brother...thank you. this is a great place for support. I understand that i was over reacting over a non-risk, but this is not about me. He did not have any cuts like i said.

I guess i should not come here to ask for help with this question. I just wanted to know what would happen to him with the PEP. Its amazing that you are telling me I am lying about this situation. i thought it was your philosophy to give the facts and assess risk. I came here and added onto my thread instead of starting a new one and followed the rules and now I get this. Thanks Ann, I appriciate it.
