High risk and really scared and regret.....
« on: September 05, 2013, 09:01:01 am »
Hi all...

Im a guy around 25 years ago and around 6 weeks ago i had two sex cases with women. One was with a prostitute from Malaysia and im unsure if the condom broke or not. The next night i had it with a stranger from China and this time unprotected sex.

Around 7 days later, i suddenly felt very fatigue and got a herpes on my mouth. The next day i was starting a low feverand i started to feel weak and would sleep whole day. Soon i start to have diarrhea every time after eating anything and sore throat. All those symptoms continued for around 11 days.

I got tested negative on the 10th day after initial exposure and also had a full blood count test. The result came back positive on Herpes 1 and Chlamydia.
The BCC result came back similar with what i tested exactly 3 month ago... EXCEPT only lymphocytes cell dropped .. and dropped by 35% which is around 25% of total WCC.
On the 16th day after initial exposure i got tested and the result was negative.  I was abit relieved by then but..

Around 7 days after that, which was 23 days/3.5 weeks after exposure i started to have a very bad hay fever with my nose, and couple days later i was sick again with low fever, sore throat, upset stomach and rash. I got a alot of small bumps around chest and neck that are very itchy and flaky skin that i need to scratch constanly. Theres two of those bumps next to each other that grow very big, and they are not itchy but dark in color and does not go down in size. The low fever comes and goes, so sometimes i cant feel any fever, but sometimes after getting a wind blown, i feel feverlish again.

Now, from yesterday i start to have sticky saliva and white foam on my tongue along with few red dots on back of my tongue, also i still have all the other fever, upset stomach, hayfever, blocked nose, dry cough symptoms.

I have never been this sick before, atleast i rarely have diarrhea or night sweats before.

Im scared because i could have infected my GF.. I've had unprotected sex within the 7days of initial exposure with her, and at that time she was bleeding as it was during her period, and i ejaculated inside of her two to three times.

Im going for an another test next week, but so far im very very scared...........................

What are my risk? i cant find other explainations of why my lymphocytes would drop this much..

Also whats the chance that i might passed it onto my GF??..

Thank you all....

You have had a risk and you will need to test at the appropriate time , the earliest you should test is 6 weeks past the unprotected sex and again at 3 months to confirm the results .

You need to have your GF tested for all STD's because you may well have infected her .
I cant stress it enough , you need to do the right thing and get your GF medical attention .

Hi Jeff

Thanks for ur reply.

I will get her tested as soon as after I got for my test on Monday.

But I don't know how I  gonna tell her about it...

Currently she's having a upset stomach with a lot of gas and slight diahhrea like me. Also she's getting fatigue feeling.

I'm not scared about myself but more for her. I cannot bear this amount of regret and hate if this happens...

What do u think is risk of  passing HIV to her in this case?

If you had an active STD and had unprotected sex with her its quite possible you infected her and she needs to know so she can make her own healthcare decisions and seek treatment . It may be hard to tell her but what would you do or think if the she gave you an STD and didn't tell you about it ASAP .

I'm not judging you , only the situation . You are going to have to do the right thing .

None of your gf's symptoms are HIV specific.

We don't deal in % of risk here. You yourself had a risk with an unprotected situation in which you had intercourse. It was only once and HIV is harder to transmit from female to male than the other way around. So the odds are in your favor against testing positive.

But you should be using a condom everytime you have intercourse with your gf until you know from testing negative that you are HIV negative. I know doing that may raise questions in your relationship, but that is the responsible way to go to protect her until you know for sure that you're negative.

Hi thanks for your replies.

I couldn't sleep and have been reading this forum.

During this time I'm getting a very bad itchy rash over my forearm and shoulder. The rash is like pimples, and a patch of small tiny red dots or small bumps.

What is the HIV initial seroconversion rash like??

Your rash is not an HIV-related rash. The one associated with ARS may or may not happen with someone. It is flat, non-itchy and is one arms and trunk of the body. It appears for a week or two just one time and then disappears.

Your rash as described is not the sort which is due to ARS. Unfortunately it looks to me as if you are misinterpreting everything that happens or doesn't happen to you as another sign of HIV. I do expect you ultimately to come out of this ok.

Thanks Andy for ur answer.

I hope I will be alright, but its the lymphocytes drop so much that's scaring me the most.

I heard that lymphocytes can be a well representation of C4 cells and HiV within first 2 weeks will see a huge drop in lymphocyte cells. Plus also I heard that if lymphocytes are less than 20% of total WCC, then it's very well related to HIV.

My blood history shows that my lymphocytes cells always been around 35-40% of total WCC, around 2.8. But the result show that I dropped from 2.6 (3month ago) to 1.7 (11days after initial exposure.)

That makes me Very very scared......

Stop scaring yourself. The only test that matters when considering HIV status is an HIV-specific test. Other blood test levels are totally irrelevant.

Stop playing doctor with yourself. Test for HIV at the right time and you will get a result that matters. The odds are in your favor to come out of this ok.

Thanks for replying

Sorry for been so anxious and worried!! I know it's annoying... But I'm really worried about this...

Today I woke up with a oval shape, not itchy or painful dark brown and flat bruise like rash on my neck.

Also my lymph glands on my neck hurts when I swallow, cough or tilt my head.

My hay fever is getting worse day by day in the morning, with heaps of yellow discharge from nasal, also blood in it. Plus my tongue is getting a white thick foam on top of it...

I really think there's a inflammation in my body and due to the reduced CD4 cells that my body is not able to fight it. That's why my symptoms persisted for so long..

I really feel fucked this time and I will keep you guys informed of the test result on Tuesday. But I'm so scared!!!

I'm sorry for been so crazy and insane about it.

But my symptoms are just getting worse.

Today is the 6th week. I'm going to check on Monday and get result on Tuesday.

I just to report and share this, coz now I really feel mentally scared.

I just find an another patch of oval size non flat dark red, not itchy or sore rash. It's like a internal bleeding bruise.  On my arm this time, near where you would take blood from.

Also I'm feeling numbness and tingles mostly on my feet and also my arm when I lye down, but mostly when I sit or drive.

I feeling slight feverish, very tried and fatigue at this point of time and I don't know how worse I'm gonna become...

Sorry... I don't know how I'm gonna live through this....

Have you been to see a doctor about your various "symptoms"? That's what you should be doing.

None of them are in any way HIV specific. I suspect it's a waste of effort to say that to you. Hopefully when you test negative you will believe that.

Hi..

i went to see specialist today.. they think that im at high risk.. she dont think that its related to other disease such as syphilis or hepatitis.

i dont think that anxious would cause this much trouble.

currently all my symptoms still exists, not a single one went away.

my tongue is now fully white and i have no taste in my mouth besides sour.

the tingles and numbness is just got worse and progressing to all over the body. my feet have tingles and numbness like 60% of the time and i've tried to sleep it off, but it dosnt work. my hands and other areas also feel tingles and slight movements, and hands are numb often.

god bless all..

I am very sorryyou are feeling poorly. If getting a PCR test would help, then get that AND an antibody test. if you want.

Thing is, ARS almost never lasts as long as the symptoms you are experiencing, and they do NOT come on one at a time. They develop at once, and when your body developes antibodies they go away.

BTW the numbness you write about really scares me. It's certainly not HIV, but you really, REALLY need to take off your HIV goggles and find out what's really, possibly seriously wrong with you.

Hi jkinatl2,

Thanks for your reply.

I've just received my blood cell test count back, and everything is normal except lympocytes which is still lower than my historical average. The lympocytes is currently @ 1.9. 11 days after exposure was 1.7.. 3 month back was 2.6

Still waiting on HIV result.. words cant express this feeling at the moment..

I've got my result bac yesterday is negative tested at 43rd day.

But my symptoms still persists: sore throat, yellow nasal discharge with blood from hay fever, ichy n non-itchy rash (itchy nose, face and itchy rash on neck, leg and arm. Non-itchy rash on hand and chest), seriously bad white thrush on tongue, dry and cracked lips, swollen glands n node, numbness and tingles on my hands and leg.  My fever gone away today but im feeling very fatigue today, for no reason.

I think that's some serious illness in my body, especially with my immune system, since my lymphocytes were dropped so much (-40%) and havnt recovered more than 10% in 4 weeks. Also the yellow nasal discharge only happens to me when I have a inflammation or bacterial infection.

Since I'm feeling very very fatigue today, and maybe my antibodies are starting to be produced?

I have a strong feeling that the reason for my negative result could be that my body havnt started producing Antibodies and that's way my symptoms have not gone away. Also could be that I've got HIV2, that's why the result was also negative at 16th day.

1) I'm wondering if p24 will always be there until antibodies kick in?

2) Also if symtoms will persist when antibodies don't kick in and thus so if symptoms still exist that's highly because the antibodies have not started to produce to a level that's detectable.

3) What's the HIV window for HIV 2?

4) what's a better test for me now.. A viral load test or PCR DNA? For both tests I tried to request it but the doctos won't give it to me, coz they only do DUO combo test in my country.

5) Does any one know what's the window period for HEP B and C?

6) I have seen many cases online where people tested positice later but at 6 weeks was tested negative.... so 6 weeks is a very uncertain time and could highly likely change to positive...?

Well, the HIV paranoia I warned you about is in full effect.

HIV-2 has the same window period and the same testing procedures as HIV -1

Quote
But my symptoms still persists: sore throat, yellow nasal discharge with blood from hay fever, ichy n non-itchy rash (itchy nose, face and itchy rash on neck, leg and arm. Your symptoms are idiosyncratic - meaning they can mean anything and nothing. Your 45 day test is very promising. In my tenure on these forums I have yet to see a partner test negative after 6 weeks and then test positive.

Quote
1) I'm wondering if p24 will always be there until antibodies kick in?

There does seem to be a small window between those testing windows according to the generation of test performed. Older tests might not note antibody production as soon as the advanced p24 test is unreliable. This is why we stress the six week, then three month confirmation. You want to hurry the process? Best of luck.

Quote
2) Also if symptoms will persist when antibodies don't kick in and thus so if symptoms still exist that's highly because the antibodies have not started to produce to a level that's detectable.

Most people seroconvert within 22 days. Having marked ARS symptoms ( you have not) there should maybe be a week at most for antibody tests to detect the outcome of that initial struggle. This again, suggests the six week preliminary, and three month confirmatory test.

Quote
3) What's the HIV window for HIV 2?

Same as HIV-1. Three months conservative.

Quote
4) what's a better test for me now.. A viral load test or PCR DNA? For both tests I tried to request it but the doctors won't give it to me, coz they only do DUO combo test in my country.

The only test you can rely upon is an antibody/duo test at six weeks and then again at three months. There are no shortcuts.

Quote
5) Does any one know what's the window period for HEP B and C?

I do not have the answer to that query. Perhaps another moderator will. I focus on HIV and related STDs.

Quote
6) I have seen many cases online where people tested positice later but at 6 weeks was tested negative.... so 6 weeks is a very uncertain time and could highly likely change to positive...?

You have seen cases, or case reports? Because I have seen them as well. And they only test positive past six weeks due to an external immunological-suppressant factor. Ongoing chemotherapy for cancer, for example.

I do not see your issue resulting in a positive at this point, for what it is worth.

Hi,

Does anyone know cases of people turning positive after a negative 6 weeks test, using 4th gen test.

I've read theres a few cases of people who tested positive but was negative at 6 weeks. Im unsure if they were using 3rd or 4th gen test.

Regards

I have never personally witnessed a second, third or fourth generation HIV test changing after six weeks. I have been giving risk assessment on this forum for ten plus years.

PLEASE keep all of your posts in the same thread.  It's a pain in the ass to move them.

Hi,

Thank you for your reassurance.

This is weird.. coz my body is just not recovering and im getting more sick each day. I woke up today feeling low feverish again and found few glands on neck swollen. Tyroid is becoming painful and my stomache is also wanting to goto toilet more... and i just wake up and had a very watery diarrhea.

I been reading, and i came across an article saying that 6 week is only accurate when seroconversion has finished.. or regardless of duration but accurate when tested 1~2 weeks after seroconversion have stopped.

For me, actually i was tested on the 43rd day.. which makes sense why its negative since thats more like end of 5th week or just first day of 6th week. So when it comes to the 6th week rule, i guess its better if its towards the end of the week.

So my result is actually very inaccurate... especially when im still sick and most likely p24 is gone from my body now and antibodies are not yet produced... thats why both of them are not detectable. Having my lymphocytes only recovered 10% (1.7 to 1.9) on 43rd day, further proves that my antibodies has not yet started producing..

What can i do?..... Can you please give me some honest advice in terms of this possibility.. which i think its highly likely.....

I never ever been sick for like 2 week... and all these symptoms coming all at once.. Im not imagining or exaggerating those symptoms at all.....

It's probably useless to say this to you, but ARS symptoms do not come and go and they do not go on and on for weeks. They appear for a week or two and then they are gone.

So this is just another way of saying that whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with HIV. If you re-test at 3 months I expect you will just get another negative result for your collection.

If you don't get satisfaction from your doctor about your symptoms then I suggest getting a second opinion. Even a good doctor can sometimes not get the right diagnosis.

Thank you...

One more question which I read a lot of people concerning about.

I know that blood count is not accurate for HiV test, but I read that there's still few relationships that do exist.

Like acute HiV lymphocytes will drop. What about neutrophils and monocyte?

I know neutrophil most likely will increase a lot and what about monocyte. Does it normally go up and down?

Sorry for asking this stupid question but I just really wannaa know. As I'm seeing very obvious differences in my blood count result and there's a definite trend going on..

Thanks

Hi All,

I just came back from the clinic with results that i've tested on the 42th day, i went to ED.

They tested me for HIV using Abbott Architect HIV Ag/Ab Combo assay and also HIV Viral Load Plasma.

I've got negative and HIV-1 RNA copies Target Not Detected.

So am i safe now? Do i need further testing at 3 month? How safe am i in terms of percentage?

I'm now scared about HIV-2 and also if HIV has hide inside my tissue or nerve (due to the numbness and tingles)..?

Sorry for been so frustrated and anxious again!..

Now THAT is some hardcore testing right there.

You can't get much more definitive than that. You are absolutely, reliably, certified HIV negative.

You do not have HIV. You do not have HIV-2. You do not have hidden HIV.

Your symptoms have absolutely nothing to do with HIV. Between the Abbot test

(here's an article about it)

http://www.abbott.com/news-media/press-releases/2011-july27.htm

and the viral load plasma test, you are absolutely HIV negative.

Hi jkinatl2,

Thank you for your reassurance!

The thing is, for the plasma test, they didnt test me for HIV2 RNA, it was only HIV1 RNA....

Should i do something about it?

Thanks!

NO. The tests you took were and are state of the art. They detect BOTH HIV 1 and 2 (which are not that different and even earlier generations of tests detect both).

From the Abbot web site I linked to you earlier:

Quote
INTENDED USE: The ARCHITECT HIV Ag/Ab Combo assay is a chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay (CMIA) for the simultaneous qualitative detection of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) p24 antigen and antibodies to HIV type 1 (HIV-1  roup M and group O) and/or type 2 (HIV-2) in human serum and plasma (EDTA and heparin).

You do not ned further testing. You are done.

Relax.

You're welcome. But I am now going to warn you that we are not going to continue an endless round of doubts and questions with you. If you continue to return here with more of the same about a situation that is basically without a real risk for HIV, you will find yourself getting a Time Out from the site.

We expect your HIV test to be negative. Again, symptoms are something to discuss with your doctor. We can't help you with that issue.

Sorry Guys to post again..

Im still very worried about this again... i have confirmed with my previous doctor that for the plasma test, i was only tested for HIV1 not HIV2...

Also i think that plasma test only shows viral load above 50,000? Not that sensitive compared to viral load test thats sensitive to 50 viral loads.

The reason i got worried is that im getting very bad rash like Hives, its very small dotted or raised dots that are itchy when touched, mostly around chest and arm. This is also happening to my girlfriend... At the same time we both getting white color tongue.. Also we have slight sore/itchy throat every few days and sputum in throat.

The hives like rash and itchy/sore throat with spumtum issue goes away after sleep, but comes back next day afternoon or night. But the white tongue is getting worse and has been going on for like 8 weeks? Also we both going to toilet like more often after eating food. Im feeling very fatigue and would get tired ALOT. I have a dried cracked and swollen lips with white coating on it too..

So im very scared that its possible that i;ve got HIV2.... seriously! I heard that tests at 6 weeks are inaccurate if the HIV is a rare HIV1 like O class or HIV2, since HIV2 antibiotics takes longer to appear, usually after 2 month and also HIV2 does not have p24..

So i seriously want to know what you guys think about those symptoms.. clearly me and my girlfriend currently have a weakened immune system.. due to a viral infection.. or something weird....

Btw she does not believe shes got HIV and im the only person very worried about this... so for her it cant be anxiety caused symptoms...

Please help me with my concern that either my plasma test was lack of sensitivity, or i have HIV2 or HIV1 rare class.....

Im most worried its HIV2?..

Regret,

Absolutely nothing you describe symptom-wise is hiv specific, and that rash you're complaining about is nothing like an ARS rash.

As you've been repeatedly told, if you were actually hiv positive, you more likely than not would have tested positive at your 43 day test.

Regarding your fretting about the plasma test, if you were experiencing primary hiv infection, your viral load would likely be over or close to a hundred thousand at this point.

Sorry, but you just don't have hiv, no matter how much you seem to want it.

If you feel unwell, see a doctor - and get a full check up instead of having more hiv tests. Whatever is going on with you has nothing to do with hiv.

Andy warned you a month ago that we are not here to hold your hand every time you get yourself worked up about this again. We do not discuss symptoms in any detail and your test results are what they are - negative.

If you do insist on continuing to post more of this symptom stuff, you WILL be given that time out. It doesn't matter that you took out a subscription - you are still subject to the same excess-posting rules.

The only thing we care to hear about from you at this point is the result of your three month conclusive test result - which I and the others who have responded thus far fully expect will be negative. Going by when you said you did your 43 day test, you will be able to obtain a conclusive result on Monday of next week. (first working day, unless you can test over the weekend)

You don't have hiv. Go find out what, if anything (other than self-induced stress), is actually wrong with you.

Hi,

Just an update, im getting tested on next Monday and will get result on following day. I'll update once upon receiving my result.

Also, the stranger girl have now confessed to me that shes HIV+....

Sorry please dont block me.. but i been very badly ill in the last week, i just want to share it with you guys..

1)4 days ago i found 4~5 large pill size lymph nodes in my neck (i found them when i have my chin down, and they are in the fat under my jaw, im skinny guy btw).

2) Today i woke up and i cant feel the right side ones, but the left ones have gone bigger and hurts.. I start to feel feverish again..

The PCR RNA i had before is not accurate, as i have called my doctor and told her that the blood sample was collected on Sunday and they did the test on Monday evening so its been in the tube for more than 24hours. Also when they collect my blood, it was not collected straight into a tube but into a large syringe and later they ejected into individual tubes.. My doctor agree it might be accurate, as in the HIV virus could have died.

Im think im really dead this time...

Your PCR test doesn't really matter. What matters is your negative antibody result. I do not expect it to change.

You will be able to post again when you have your test result next week. In the meantime, re-read your entire thread until what you've already been repeatedly told finally sinks in.

what happened to your result regret2max? I'm having the same symptoms as yours and I even saw your posts on medhelp where you said the woman you slept with had hiv-2 .I'm worried for hiv-2 because my country accounts for 95% of the hiv-2 infections in Asia.
