Hello, i'm 25 yr married man. Never have sex with another patner until 25/09/12 i do a stupid decision to have sex with sex worker, my encounter was very brief 1 minutes after i ejaculate... When i pull out my penis condom still intact.. I was worried about my wife, i stop doing unprotected with my wife, until 10, 20 and 23 day i went to local hospital to make hiv rapif test, all negative.. I also check for std also negative. I start confident to have unprotected sex with my, after 1 week my wife have flu and cough.. Worried for my wife, i've done 38 day test ab/ag eclia method follow up with 70 day and 91 day after encounter with sw.. All not detected.. Am i clear ? Need ur opinion..

Loco, you are worrying unnecessarily. You had protected intercourse. You used a condom. They provide very effective protection against HIV. There is no need to worry. Whatever is causing your wife's symptoms has nothing to do with HIV. She should see her doctor if they symptoms continue.

There is no need for you to test for HIV. Get on with your life.

Thanks you for reply Andy Velez... I know, my intercouse protected, what bother me SW use their own condom.. I really dont know what brand and xpired date. Shoul i be concerned about this? No oral sex was involve. Only vaginal..

Sex workers use condoms to protect themselves, NOT you, so they're not going to use inferior condoms.

You had protected intercourse. You did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

Yes, the three month window hiv testing period applies world-wide. (Even when information coming out of any given country is out-dated. All the hiv antibody tests being manufactured today will detect antibodies by three months.)

While you do not need to test over this specific incident, any sexually active adult should be tested at least once a year.

Here's what you need to know in order to avoid hiv infection:

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together.

To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex without a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO SPECIFICALLY TEST FOR HIV FOLLOWING PROTECTED INTERCOURSE, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results.

Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv. Some of the other STIs can be present with no obvious symptoms, so the only way to know for sure is to test.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple!
