Interesting data interpretation on HIV
« on: December 07, 2009, 11:44:54 pm »
I was browsing videos on ted when I came across this one. It shows demographics of the HIV disease over the time. It is quite interesting how he has presented and interpreted the HIV related data. He shows how HIV is positively correlated to peace and higher income in african subcontinent.

Interesting, but what does it tell us about how HIV is transmitted, or what are the key risk behaviors. More importantly for most of us here, what does it tell us about how treat or cure an HIV infection.

Interesting data (cool app for sure,) but I don't see any useful knowledge there.

not all research is biological, some is just social research. This man's research wasn't looking for a cure; but into the spread pattern and trends of HIV infections.

looking at this social data (income and population), not biological research data, could show where you to better spend resources to help those already infected. (50% of all HIV cases worlwide are located within only 4% of the world population, located on the mid to lower African continent) It also shows trends that lead to the spread of HIV (poor condom education, age-disparate sex) This data also shows which areas of the world are not doing as good with their prevention/treatment procedures.

Interestingly and totally unrelated, looking up Hans Rosling I read that he is also a sword swallower
