AMG 2010 London / Time of Year Vote
« on: October 10, 2009, 02:51:15 pm »
As promised, I have agreed to help with AMG London until a permanent coordinator is announced for this event.

In the meantime, let's try to keep the planning moving forward so that those who want to attend can put in for their vacation or start making whatever arrangements are necessary.

Please vote for the MONTH you would like to see AMG London take place.

Voting will end toward the end of the month.

Thank you for keeping things moving on choosing a time.  Even though you can't coordiinate this one I'm sure your help will be invaluable.

I'm hoping it will be when I can attend and am voting for May or June (or very early July :-) ).

As I will be 'up north', meaning the Northern Hemisphere  in August and Sept. I vote for September, or August whichever gets more votes  ;)

I don't have any preferences on dates.  May is good, can be a bit rainy that month.  Temps will be pretty mild (i.e., not warm).  If people want warmer temps, you may need to wait until July/August, but as Robert says flights may be more expensive then.  Also, there are two holidays in May (first and last Mondays of the month) that we may want to avoid, so I assume hotels will be more expensive those weeks.

My vote: Mid-May and September.

I'm also pretty flexible about dates, though the first week in July 2010 is a bit difficult as I have two conferences to organise.

I don't know about flights, but for those who need it, student accommodation may be cheaper way to stay in London.  It is only going to be available outside of term time.  Some of the choices are very close to the centre of town.  It may be a bit basic, but they are normally modern and clean.

I could look into this, if it was of help.

With the new info regarding discounted airfares I'm going to try and do both Las Vegas and London.

But if they're too close together then that won't be possible.  I've already committed to LV, so I'd have to pass on Lon.

So I'm hoping you all decide early Spring (Apr/May?).

May or October sounds good to me.  RAB raises a good point that May might enable people are who are thinking of attending both the opportunity.  London is much better in Spring than Summer as well in my view.

I voted for July originally, but I wasn't aware of the price differences compared to other dates. I'm somewhat flexible, so end of May would be alrighty as well.

Being British, I would say May or Sept/Oct are good times to visit...the rain is always a hazard but we do have sunny days (like the autumn, has been splendid).

I am not voting tho, just offering a thought.

Being 13 yrs a Londoner I also know lots of secret places and do recommend a day trip to Brighton, esp since the AIDS memorial has just been unveiled there (yuk! to my taste but important object). Being a Brightoner now, I would be happy to organise this if people want to come to the coast.

London Pride, well if you wanna see lots of drunk homosexuals and extra litter.....

Hi everybody.

You've been letting us know for a couple of weeks about when you would like the London AMG to take place.

In order to move forward with the planning, we'd like to set a deadline of the end of Saturday 31st October 2009 for people to let us know their preferences here of when they would like the London AMG to happen.

Thanks for all the support that we've had to make this happen.

& Thanks also to Dennis for passing the 'AMG Co-ordinator' to us for this year.

October sounds good.

That would give me time to scrounge up the money for the trip, etc. ;)

Part of the etc. would be the cocktail I owe Cliffy.

I've been doing some preliminary work myself and so far I figure
those cocktails I owe Cliff come to about 2/5ths of my budget.

I will, howeverr, abstain from voting.
