Stock selloff deepens

The stock selloff worsened as reports of slumping stocks in China and Europe and a steep decline in durable goods orders raised worries that the recent rally may be tapped out News that Vice President Dick Cheney was the apparent target in a Taliban suicide bombing attack in Afghanistan added to the concerns.

The Dow fell 546.02, or 4.3 percent, to 12,086.06 before recovering some ground in the last hour of trading to close down 416.02, or 3.29 percent, at 12,216.24, according to preliminary calculations.

The plunge was the Dow's worst since Sept. 17, 2001, the first trading day after the terror attacks, when the blue chips closed down 684.81, or 7.13 percent.

and also many things that used to get up on a regular basis and with little prodding now appear dormant.
1.Japan raised interest rates on Monday. Many were using this very cheap money from Japan to invest in China and US.
2.FRE said they will no longer accept loans where buyer is not approved for higher rates starting in Sept. This is just another sign of Greenies easy money coming home to roost. Kids making under 100 grand a year in Cal and Fl with mortgages on 1 mill dollar homes with no money down is a recipe for disaster. Thanks Bin Greenspan.
3.Greenspan also said there"might be a recession this year". I might get laid this year, but I doubt it. This guy can't stand to be out of the spotlight, why else marry a hag like Andrea Mitchel?  His inability to see that low unemployment does not always produce inflation, but is most often the product of his actions(printing money) has held back markets for the last ten years.
4.Not only is it true that whatever goes up usually comes down, but it comes down a lot faster than it goes up.
5. I think the huge supply of ETFs was a factor in yesterdays lack of liquidity.
