Once and for all - can a positive UD woman infest her partner ?
« on: January 15, 2011, 03:18:40 am »
Hi ,
Why after so long .. so many years fof research can 't get a clear opinion.
I am Undetectable for along time.
I am going thru fertility treatments with my husband who is negative.
The reason for the fertility treatment is cause we are using condoms.
I got pregnent 3 time and unfortunately had miss carriage
Now its been 2 years since last time and I can not continue with this sort of fertility treatment - all these hormons are driving me crazy.
So I googled "undetactable" and found some articles stating that for positive ud that under coctail drugs, there is no chance to transmit (specialy if the positive is the woman)
So ..
I want to quit with the condoms and try getting pregnent in the good old way.
Can u please help me with this?
Are there any mixed couples that u know who's doing unprotected sex (while UD) ofcourse and the partner remain negatinve ?

Hi Panda. I think the word you're looking for is "infecting", not infesting. :)

It is NOT true that there is NO chance of infecting your partner while you're undetectable. However, the chance is greatly reduced.

There have been articles and threads on this topic from time to time here on AIDSmeds. Here are a few...

In that last thread, in one of my posts I gave a long list of other previous threads on the subject.

If you have further questions after reading through those links, please do not hesitate to come back here and ask.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Panda, the links I gave you in my first post contain discussions from other forum members who have had children in serodiscordant relationships. Please click on them and read.

I"m a new Old member of the forum and i'll tell you my experience but you have to make the choice on your own.  I was married at the time of my diagnosis for 7 years.  My hubby tested negative thank God.  I was infected by a man i was in a relationship prior to the one i married.  After being with my hubby for  7 years with a high viral load and he didn't get infected he wasn't scared and it was his choice to continue our sex life as it was.  We have been together since 1987 and He still test negative.  WE have never used protection.  Even my doc told me there was a slim chance now that I was undectable that he would become infected.  This is a choice he made and a chance that he takes but this may not be the right thing for everyone.  Good luck :)

I got pregnent !!!
For the first time we did not use any protection...
My last pregnency was 2.5 years ago with fertility treatments , it ended with a miss carrigae and since then I tried to get pregnent with these treatments with no results. So 2 weeks ago we diceded to take this chance and we made sex with no condom. To be honest... it was very quick :-)
I tested before ndetectable anf right after again to be sure also undetecable
I hope this pregnency will last til the end this time.
Now I am pushing mu husband to get tested, I just want to be sure he is ok.

Almost there! You must be due not long after a friend of mine - she's due November 4th - her birthday and mine too.

I'm sorry to hear that you developed gestational diabetes. You may not have to take anything for diabetes after the birth - gestational diabetes usually disappears once the baby is born. However, you will be more at risk of developing type 2 diabetes, so you will have to be regularly monitored after the baby is here.

You are on hiv meds, right? As long as your viral load is undetectable and has been for a while, there is less than a 2% chance of the baby being born positive. Please don't let it worry you. I've yet to hear of a baby being born positive when the mother was on meds during the pregnancy and had an undetectable viral load.

Hang in there hun, and keep us posted. :)
