Hi there

Welcome to the forums.

Everyone reacts different to their positive result, just give your self time, believe me things will get better..and just remember being HIV positive doesn't stop you from being the person you were before your diagnosis.

I was diagnosied in 2002, I cope by keeping myself busy and decided in the early stages (thanks to the guys here) that I would not let this virus control me..knowledge and attitude are the best medications.

Hope to hear more from you.

Hugs
Jan

Like I said everyone deals with it differently..speaking for myself I'm reminded of it everyday when I have to take my meds but once those little buggers are gone I move on.
No-one here will tell you it's easy or you have to act this way or that..it's up to you how you deal with it...I know it's hard but eventually it will  get easier for you...it will always be apart of you but hopefully it won't always control your every waking moment.

Hugs

Hey Is:

Welcome to the forums. :)

I remember every day I have HIV, of course.  But I'm not at all obsessed with it like I was when diagnosed ('89).  What I'm trying to tell you is, things will get better.  You're still newly diagnosed, so take it easy on yourself.  Whatever you're feeling (or not feeling) is perfectly normal.  With time, you'll find that the whole acceptance thing will get easier.  Take a deep breath.

Hope to hear more from you in the coming days.

Hi Isit, welcome to the forum.

I noticed in your other thread that you say you have hiv 1 and 2. Has this been confirmed through extra testing? I'm wondering if you had an hiv ELISA test that tests for both, and it came back saying hiv 1 & 2 reactive. This does not necessarily mean you have both as the result reports don't normally differentiate between the two, only that you're reactive (positive). Hiv 2 is quite rare outside a few Western African nations and it would be unusual for you to be infected with both. This is something you might want to talk to your doctor about.

Things will eventually settle down for you. It's a rollercoaster ride for most of us when we first find out our hiv status. It may help you to join an hiv service organisation where you can meet other hiv positive people face-to-face and talk to them and actually SEE how well they're doing and coping. I know it helped me to do this in the early days of my diagnosis.

Hang in there, you're going to be alright.

Hugs,
Ann

Hi ANN im not sure if i have had the ELISA test when i had to go to the clinics i was told i had HIV strain 1 and 2. I dont know how it is done in the USA but in England the bloods are sent to an outside hospital. If proven positive result are then sent to another hospital to be re-tested. I have made a not of the ELISA test and will as my consulatant when i go to see him the beginning of April. Thanks Ann :)
