Rule #1: Don't Anthropomorphize Viruses
« on: August 08, 2013, 07:35:08 pm »
I don't know about you all, but I get a good chuckle thinking every time HIV drops some nasty reverse transcriptase into one of my T-cells, it gets a big emtricitabine/tenofovir bomb in its face. Ha ha ha. Sucker

I've been watching YouTube again because of that virology class. This video explains the mode of action of NNTRIs, but also the difference between NRTIs and NNRTIs. Basically, nevirapine gives reverse transcriptase arthritis in his good hand, whereas NRTIs are like little wrenches thrown in the gears down at the reverse transcription factory. At least according to these animations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7V1eVwxV_c

I don't take an NNRTI, but if HIV gets through the NRTIs, I'm all like, how about some elvitegravir in your face, fool. Hahaha. It's fun being medicated.

I do worry about what other processes are being inhibited, but none that I need to keep breathing, it seems. Wait, lemme check... No, still going.

I think that was one of my favorite animations.  It's nice to know what's taking place, when I swallow my viramunes !

Here's another good one:

Oh, thanks for that. Yeah, "it inhibits rt" isn't really much of an explanation, but that's all you get most of the time. The music is pretty monumental, but it's the voice wot does it for me in the one you posted. He makes fighting HIV sound like your patriotic duty, like fighting the Nazis. I want that voiceover job.
