This is a really broad question, you should read the rest of this forum.
In your list, I would avoid the iron unless you are iron deficient.

Rusty

Right now you are not on meds?  The most important thing to know about supplements is that some interact with other medications.  Once you are on meds you should check each supplement against your medications list to see if there are potential problems.  There is an interaction checker on this site.  http://www.aidsmeds.com/cmm/

As far as other supplements go, there is science supporting the use of a multivitamin.  And generally, as Madbrain points out, men should not take extra iron unless their doctor prescribes it.

Best wishes

Rusty:

i am in general agreement with the responses you've received. There are supplements we should avoid, or doses of the same, we should not exceed.

i am on meds, and it's true we need to put our list of supplements (and doses) up against each med, and drop any thing that makes for unhappy camping.

i think it's important for everyone on earth to take a quality multivitamin, to offer your body whatever it might not have received that day.

many supplements are to counter certain conditions or diseases. for example, i take a baby aspirin (81 mg) daily to prevent heart disease. if i was bleeding up a storm, guess what i wouldn't take? aspirin. lots of this is common sense. i take omega 3 too. if someone is taking a basket full of supplements daily, my first reaction would be they might better just take the multi-vitamin and eat a good diet of fresh food. and save a bundle of money. seriously.

how you live is more important than supplements you may or may not take. walk. bike. yoga. resistance training. play sports. do things that are physical. changes everything.
and drink lots and lots of water. i don't think water is classified as a supplement  :o (yet).

My take on this is if you have a good balanced diet you need none unless your difficient in something, having said that few of us have the perfect diet so a good multivit with minerals wont do any harm.
From what i read many hiv pos people have low vit d and calcium , selenium and testosrone levels i tested two weeks ago all good except testosrone which is not corrected with supplements but cream or injections. Most important is omega 3 tablets to keep your heart in good shape i have been taking these for a few years great against high cholestorol and trigilcydes, as well as a hot mug of green tea every morning.

Rusty,

I always take a daily multivitamin, that's low in iron.,  But nothing beats good nutrition, and what you eat on a daily basis.

Don't forget to check out the Nutrition and diet tips in the lessons ; ( about 10 fast pages to read)
