« on: June 06, 2019, 03:10:23 am »
Hey
I was just going through some studies..wanted to know that does presence of STI increases the risk of transmission of HIV even when viral load is Undetectable ?? Anyone has any idea regarding it...
Thanks

Aha the old STI theory, that goes having an STI could lead to an increase in viral load.

It was originally included in the Swiss statement and, comes from seeing people with HIV who are not taking treatment and, have an STI reporting increased VL's, however we know now that does not apply people taking HIV treatment who have an undetectable viral load.

References are the many TaSP studies, more recently you could read the PARTNER and Opposites Attract studies, there was not a single HIV transmission even though many people had STIs and this was reported on, in addition to those two here is another study http://www.aidsmap.com/Study-confirms-STIs-make-no-difference-to-undetectability-and-infectiousness-in-people-taking-HIV-treatment/page/3345560/

Thanks a lot Jim..I got so worried after reading some studies that having a STI increases ur viral shedding even when ur viral load is Undetectable...such data should be removed from the net..huh .. anyways thanks for easing my mind as always
Lots of love💙

Indeed, they should or at least add an update note. One of the worst offenders, if you ask me is the CDC for hosting decades old info and, being slow to adapt to new findings.

You're welcome.  :)
